Hi guy's will this wiring diagram help you? http://kevp982.filefarmer.com/WiringDiagram.pdf
I'm still waiting to receive my IS so I can't try anything,
but I will be wanting to do this modification on my
sport package with Nav + ML.
Jeez, thats way detailed... Thanks for sharing, im sure this will help a few members out not to mention this info can be used later for other electrical issues. Welcome to clublexus.
DAMN you're right! I have only driven my car at night once in the last 3 weeks and did not notice the foot light is on when driving. This mod is easily removable. I can undo it in 5 minutes. For now, I will find the power lines for the door switch.
PLEASE DO NOT DO COPY THIS MOD, as jlin101 indicated that the scuff will remain on when you drive.
As long as you don't mind having the scuff plate on while driving with the headlights on, it's not a big deal (the LED doesn't consume much electricity and has a long lifespan)--you probably can't see it with the door closed, anyway.
I've located the junction box where the wire for the sill plates should be connected- its very hard to see and need to get at it during the day/when I have a decent amount of time to probe it, etc. For those interested, its the left cowl side junction box, located up above the break pedal to the left. The box has plugs going into it on 3 sides- the side we're interested is the one that faces the front of the car. I was trying last night using a mirror to see if the plug has the sill plate wire actually present where the signal should be generated, but couldnt see close enough to come to any real conclusions.
There is a chance the wire isn't present but the ground signal is being properly generated. Perhaps one of the junction connectors between the scuff plate connector and the junction box is for non-lux packages and doesn't include this wire. Why the scuff plate connector would still be present is beyond me. It's interesting that the wiring diagram makes a note for the blue and white wires coming out of the scuff connector saying "with illuminated scuff plates"- yet I don't have the plates and they (the wires) are present. I've also searched the service manual and wiring diagrams and cannot find any notes about anything being different for cars with and without the plates (aside from the note I mentioned above).
I talked to Luis from Carson Lexus yesterday and he said he's had two customers call in telling him they haven't had a problem with the plates. He said one was a 250, one was a 350- one base, one sports pkg (not sure which is which).
I want to get to the bottom of this- my current plan of action is to 1. See if all the correct wiring is in place and 2. probe the ECU to see if it is generating the proper ground signal.
And no- I haven't gotten my plates yet but anticipate they will not work since I cannot get the proper voltage across the connectors at the appropriate times.
Can everyone who has gotten these plates please say which model of car they are putting them into.
For example base model or sport package. This way we can figure out if there is a problem with the base model or sport package.
Hope someone can get to the bottom of this never thought this mod would be such a pain to do.
Thanks
I just had a moment to pull apart my plastic scuff, to check the connector for power, I took a test light and tested it and found that I HAVE power sitting at the plug. My car is a is250 with NAV
I used the door hook as a ground.....(thats a good point....) Im going back outside to check if the ground at the plug is grounded....brb
ok im back, anf the ground is switched...so in my case the scuff plates will NOT work properly...I am going to investigate further and let you know what i come up with

I am just as confused as you are looking at the wiring diagram.
I'm also planning on probing the ECU (unless you get to it first) - thanks for giving us the heads up on where it is.
Page 653 of the wiring diagram shows the ECU's pin 24 connecting to a #19 (and it is grayed out). I don't know what that means but I hope it's a connector between two pins that's simply missing on our cars. Hopefully pin 24 will still generate the negative signal. I can easily modify my mod to hook up from there.
With all this mesing around is this mod going to be super hard or can the common person do it? I know no one has got to the bottom of this. It just seems this will be a hard one to do after all is said and done.
Hope im wrong.
Wish this was just a plug and play also muzzman how can i get ahold of you do u have an email i can email you at?
If the negativ signal is present from the ECU, then it would be similar to my DIY instruction just the connection point to a different location. Also, it may be possible that only one connection is required unlike my individual connections for each light. The hard part will be connecting to the ECU. Terp05 says it hard just to even get to it. But, it can be done. If the negative is there, I will post a step by step inst. when I do it which will be ASAP since I can't wait.
