This weekend a couple of times my car showed that it was not sensing the smartkey. The car started anyways I found it strange. Last week my car said the bluetooth signal was week and disconnected in the middle of a call. I thought the bluetooth signal could go as far away as 30 feet. While driving I am less than a foot away. Is anyone else having these problems

I've had situations that the bluetooth will not read my V551 but it is usally at the time I start in the morning and I just turn my phone on and off and it is ok. No smartkey problems here.
s700i disconnected once but never again, it's been fine so far, sometimes when i turn off the car and walk away it takes about 50 feet for it to disconnect. no smart key problems here too

depending on where is your key, it might be not sensed. Keep in mind that IS has to know if the key is inside or outside of car, so detection can not be too "strong".
As to the bluetooth, it has VERY limited range... more like 5-10 feet at MAXIMUM.
Of course, sensors for bluetooth and smartkey has nothing to do with each other.
My dealer told me on Saturday when I bought the car that they have found a few spots in the IS where your key signal is weak or cannot be detected....according to what he said, you got to really try and put your key in these places like far under the seat etc... I am guessing you do not have your key in any of these weird places so I dunno what the problem is.
While there is a "standard" for Bluetooth range, every device is going to be a little bit different. Some will detect 30 feet away easily, some are much shorter.
I noticed something the other day and that it was somewhat strange. Coming straight from the dealership, I brought my new car home. For obvious reasons I had not set the homelink system to open my garage so I had to park the car in my driveway and walk to my garage key pad and punch in my combo to open the garage. What I didn't realize until after my garage door went up and I was back in the car was that I had my key in my pocket the whole time and the car never turned off and I was like 10 feet away from the car. My question is how far away can you walk with the key once the car is started without it losing the signal or is it that the car needs to have the signal to only start the car and it doesn't matter how far away you take the key it will not shut off?
I think you were right...the car only needs to sense the key to turn on. Once on, you can walk away from the car if the key is in your pocket. Example...stop at 7-Eleven and can leave person in car inside with A/C on without having to leave the key in the car with them.
Yeah, the more that I think about it the more I realize the occasions when you are going to want to walk out of your car and keep it on....just like your 7-eleven example...
hum.. really.. that is scary then... what if you leave it on by accident and all of a sudden someone jumps on and leaves... so i guess there is no limit?
but then again.. if the key was to be sensed the WHOLE time.. i am sure the key would requite an incredible amount of battery power.. and frequently change battery...
The thing is...if someone did just jump in and take your car they could drive it somehwere and once they turned it off, they could not turn it on again since they would not have the key. Don't know if that is a good thing though.

and what would happen if you had normal key? Either you would turn the car off (which is what you can do with smart key), or you would leave car keys in the car, so someone would get your keys as well.
so in any case, smart key is smarter and better.
and of course, your car will never shut off on its own, thats just crazy and accident waiting for happen.
haha true... but it can be very bad if the car shuts off when the car doesn't sense the key (battery runs out) so you can be going 100 on the highway and your engine goes poop.. and you would have to call roadside assistance for a new battery..
