since HID only comes with Sport or Lux package, and I don't really need it either of these package, do you think is worth to get the HID w/ adaptive headlight, or just get an aftermarket HID

it's a touch call. those packages are not cheap if you just want the hid out of them.

however, i wouldn't get aftermarket hid kits myself, they are never close to factory hid maybe down the road try to see if you can get factory headlights installed? a risk though i know

I had aftermarket HID on my wife tC, it looks really good and bright, the only problem is it doesn't have projector headlight and I believe the reflector is not design for HID, so it blind other people, so I am considering to go for aftermarket HID instead of the pricey package

don't even think about it.... adaptive headlights are way more than just headlights. first of all, the autoleveling wont' work coz' you need sensors on wheels. and the adaptive function, it probably has to do with your steering position too, that means more sensors and wires tapping.

to me, i think getting hid headlights and able to get the hid fires and that's good enough already

I think he said that his NON HID headlights (reflector style) blind people when used with aftermarket HID kits. The factory HIDs have projectors that have a sharp cutoff line to prevent from blinding oncoming traffic.

I put 6000K HIDs in my '03 Celica when I had it. Made a huge *** difference, but not exactly like the dealership. Dealership are using 4000K, this means it brighter and whiter compared to the 6000K or up. 4000K is ideal because it is actually the brightest lighting you can achieve, anything else is not as bright. Also, I don't know what lenses they use in the projectors oor what not, but you'l notice in a distance it looks more blue and as the vehicle comes closer it looks whiter. The Celica had projectors, but it just looked blue all the time so I don't know. But yeah, won't look the same aftermarket compared to stock.

BTW, MTECs are not going to change the brightness of the light. All it does is change the color and it's actually darker compared to normal headlights because you're not putting more energy into the bulbs. Hence why HID's need ballasts.

if you are interested in the brightness/functionality of HID, get the oem package (having the dealer to retrofit the headlights alone is very expensive--you might as well get the package). If you just want the look of xenon and want others to notice that you have HID, then I suppose aftermarket HID bulb conversion is ok.

Isn't there a way that you could pre-order your car and just have them put HID's on it without all the package? That's what I was told from my dealer here in ATL. Maybe you should ask before opting not to get it and then deal with the hassle of trying to find HIDs later that will suffice to your needs. Good luck.

On a side note, I think that not having the HIDs standard was the stupidest thing Lexus did with the new IS. You have to be kidding me. It feels like buying a BMW where you have to add the stupidest crap to the car and as you do, you can see the price tag just going "cha ching cha ching."

well, to avoid confusion, they are the same.

if you get a halogen and change the bulbs to superwhite, a lot of times you read those as "xenon bulbs", but they are just "xenon wannabe"
