Park Assist Picture
Heres a picture of the park assist when you pull into a parking spot. Pretty much just like the GS... I thought that only a small diagram in the corner of the nav and another small diagram in your console comes up telling you wehre your getting close, I think thats only if your going in reverse. For the front two sensors this is what shows up on the NAV.

Does the Park Assist detect curbs too, both on the side and front/rear? Also, how about those cement stopping blocks at the front of parking spaces?

Yes. this is the same Park Assist system found in the new GS. the interface is the same.

According to the options list, this is a $500 option. Given that I'm in NYC, I'd definitely want this to help with parallel parking. Is this something that's typical equipment on most IS250s and IS350s or is this something hard to find like the Mark Levinson sound system?

Does it have distance control for the very front of the car? I use that all the time with my garage at work because it's a pretty terrible design with non-visible things sticking out in some spaces

Sam: Right now in NYC area there are 3 configurations available for the 350: premium w/no nav, sport w/nav, and luxury w/nav. All 3 come with the park assist. I don't know about the 250 but you can find out very easily by going to www.lexus.com, selecting the IS model, do "Build Your IS", and then put in your zip code.

I'm a little skeptical about getting a car from Lexus of Manhattan even though that's where I get my car serviced. Back in August 2002 when I was looking for a 2002 GS300 SportDesign (which I ended up getting from Difeo Lexus for $5K under sticker price), they had a demo model that the manager was driving with $1K miles on it and they still wanted me to pay sticker price. On top of that, it had a big scrape in the driver's door right below the handle. We're not talking about a nick or a chip. The whole door would have to be painted. I have a feeling I'll be able to get a bet deal elsewhere.
Btw, sorry to hijack this thread with this discussion.
