That is a small gas tank, I'm curious what the MPG will be for V6 over 300 hp.

There's got to be more than just the tranny diff there or that's a typo.

Either Lexus engineers didn't care about the weight or there's a lot of content that others in the segment don't have. Depending on options the IS could be the leader in the weight category - not a category you want to lead.

The reason the gas tank may be so small is to help out in track times. (IE 0-60 and quarter mile)

The 20lbs added by a tank 2-3 gal bigger is insignificant in any performance measure. More than likely it had to do with the packaging - probably didn't want to take away too much interiror or trunk room.
