I'm pretty sure assuming I liked the way it drove, that I would buy that car ASAP if the IS350 came out w/ a 6-speed manual.
I might consider the auto, but only if the manumatic shifting were decent, and so far I've yet to drive a single lexus vehicle that had decent manumatic shift control, including my own. And the reviews for the 3rd gen GS seem to be even worse (as in it automatically upshifting at redline, which even mine doesn't do).

The first time I've seen the car in Geneva, I was sort of disappointed, now the more I see it the more I like it.
For the European market, the 2.5l V6 204 PS will be a major improvement on the current 2.0 L6 155 PS of my IS200 which is quite weak.
I do not know wether the 8.2 sec figures refer to a manual gearbox or the sequential 6 auto gearbox.
On the other hand, the 2?? Ps of the IS 350 will be a major improvement on the current auto IS300 far from being a sports car.

Since we know that the new IS300 will have a V6 engine, How can it achieve 300 hp or greater? I always thought that those kinda numbers were reserved for V8 engines.
My current SC400 has 290hp V8.
Don't most V6 models go around 240-260 hp?
Do you think IS 300 hp is unrealistic by Lexus? I'm really hoping at least 280-290 but 300 or 310 would be awesome, still can't understand how they can get this kinda hp for the new IS & still be fuel efficient.
Edit: here is a great link with comparison of dimensions, so it looks like the new IS will be 180.2 in in length. http://www.is300.net/forums/showthread.php?t=212111

The only problem with trying to squeeze close to 100HP/l without FI is that you start needing a healthy valvetrain and other expensive options. Also, power like that sometimes gets peaky and not very useful on the street. For good driveability it would probably be better to keep the HP at 300 or less and get as much tq as possible - especially considering it will only have a slush box (for now). Notice how Infiniti kept the HP down but more tq in the AT version of G35/M35.
Then next year when the 6MT becomes available they can pull an Infiniti like move and give those rare cars even more HP.
Why put out a car in the segment with 325HP when 299HP will do and still claim most power in class.

As to the torque, it will be bigger than VQ's in G35 anway so thats not the issue either. It should have seriously more torque than 330i, I wonder how BMW will then imagine their BMW's speed. I bet we will have few claims of BMW under-rating 330i's torque by ... 50%! :-))))

pushing almost 100hp/liter is indeed not easy, it's actually a magic umber. the m3, m5, s2k, and the f430 are the few cars off the top of my head quick that can do that.
if it's a 3.5 liter engine doing 325 hp that's almost 100 hp / liter, it's not easy, but given the good history of toyota, if they wanna do it, they can. i am crossing my fingera

So 100hp/liter is definitely possible via any manufacturer today. The real challenge becomes if you can keep it cost-effective, reliable, and keep decent low end power, seeing as how realistically even the most heavy-footed drivers still spend more time cruising and closer to idle than to do to redline.
