My Lexus IS250 2006 model has had occasional power steering seizes since I got it in 2022.
It’s always been easy to release it & carry on normal.
Now it seizes up & doesn’t release.
I bought a used rack & pinion for it & put it in, now 2 weeks later it’s seizing up again & won’t release.
Mechanics don’t seem to know what’s wrong with it.
1. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to fix it?
2. What can I do to release it in the meantime so I can keep driving until it is fixed?
The car has electric steering, meaning that the steering wheel is not directly connected to the steering rack. The steering wheel moves a position sensor which causes an electronic module to operate a motor that drives the steering rack.
Low voltage problems in the electrical system could cause steering problems or the power steering control module could be failing.
Other than diagnosing and fixing the problem, I don't know of any way to get around the problem.
