Got about 2 blocks from my house this morning in 14 degree weather in Alabama and engine died. Car wouldn't crank. Lights work. Got a jump from a passing car (thanks!). I have a lighter voltmeter, it read 11.9volts. When he jumped car, it still read 11.9volts. My car still wouldn't crank. Tried 2nd key fob, no difference. What should I look for?
Your battery dead 1, If it is dead, you might have an alternator issue. Or else a dead or dying battery. How old is the battery? If 3 or more years or older, battery could be it, good luck.
Thanks for the quick response. New AGM battery (last fall). Doesn't make sense that car voltage didn't go up when I was connected to the jumper car. Now my son is at the car and it started right up for him!
OK, my son said it started then died. Weird. When I get it to the house I'll put a meter on the battery and then slow charge the son of a gun. Been on slow charge for 30 minutes. Now I hear a couple of faint clicks when trying to start. Guess I got a dud Optima battery? Will know at the end of today when temps reach a balmy 24.
But is it charging? AGM's typically have a slightly higher static voltage compared to regular LAB. My USB volt meter in the IS and Tundra pretty .uch always show 13.9 to 14V on start and hold that for about 15" and settle to 13.4 - 13.6V until shut off.
