New Transmission
I want to preface this post by stating that I am no vehicle expert and have minimal mechanical expertise (should’ve taken auto shop in high school..). That said, I have a 2006 IS 250 Automatic with 145,000 miles. Recently, my shifting felt noticeably different and I ended up with the code P2757, VSC, TRAC. After a ton of research, I ended up buying the parts to replace trans pan gasket, fluid, and solenoid, as that seemed the most likely culprit. After failing to install it myself, I brought it to a shop, and they say the solenoid will not fix the issue, instead my transmission is shot, and they quoted me $4000 for a used transmission and $4500 for rebuilt. Obviously I’m not going to do this because the car is worth $4500 in great condition (which it’s not).
That said, I don’t have any mechanic buddies nearby but the people I know think the shop is trying to rip me off (based on our convos over the phone).
Any advice as to how to proceed? I was planning to bring the car home, lift it properly, and try the solenoid fix again, in the hopes it fixes the issue (and the shop was wrong). Any thoughts from those with more car knowledge?! Thanks!
