1jz gte rods/pistons
I was given Very Clean 1Jz gte Rods and Pistons. Im planning on building my 2Jz-Ge Vvti this year "Still Awaiting parts" my question is will the 1j Rods and pistons work properly with the 2jz due to the 2j block being taller and the 1j rods being shorter?? Would I have to take my block to the machine shop to shave down the block to accommodate for the shorter rods.

Disclaimer: I do not know the differences in specs between the 1j/2j stuff. If the 1j stuff is shorter, I would strongly suggest that you do not "shave" a 2j block down to make them work. If you were inclined to use those pistons/rods I would get a 1j block and use them in that, but that is overkill to get an inferior setup running. I'm not saying that to knock any of the 1j guys either. If you want to have a 2jz use the 2jz parts and build it right instead of trying to fit the square peg in the round hole. That's my two cents and I hope that helps you decide what you're going to do next.

You would need to shorten the block (or lengthen the piston) approximately 17mm to use 1JZ rods in a 2JZ. You'd want to verify that obviously. The 1JZ block is shorter than that, so wouldn't be an option.
You would move the rod ratio from 1.65 to 1.45 and would need to make some other modifications to the block/setup to make it all work, assuming there is enough material for the head bolts/studs with a shortened deck height. A shorter timing belt would be required, along with other business (bracketry, etc).
I'm not even sure it would be possible, but I'm pretty sure it's way more work than it's worth if it is possible. My advice is to sell the 1JZ parts and buy some 2JZ parts.

You could use the pistons, but the rods are way too short. If you built a 2JZ motor with 1JZ rods you would end up with an incredibly low, low-compression engine. Early combustion engines were built this way 100 years ago because it was a new science.
Regarding your block: A 2JZ block cannot be shaved/machined down to 1JZ specs. They are 2 different cast iron blocks that are closed deck design. If you did manage to machine a 2JZ block to 1JZ dimensions, you would be removing the whole closed deck design. You would end up with an open deck motor.
The legendary strength of the xJZ motors is their cast iron closed deck design. I'm not even certain you could bolt the head onto the machined block at this point because you would've removed all the material the head bolts would've threaded into.
If you were given these parts, just sell them and buy 2JZ-GTE rods and pistons. Once you do that you'll be good to go

A cooling jacket spacer could be machined to provide some of the reinforcement lost by losing the closed deck. But again... it doesn't make any sense to do that, haha.
I'm stuck between the reality of the situation (don't do it, it's a terrible idea), and the thought experiment of whether it could actually be done (as bad an idea as that is).
