Default 1-piece driveshaft

Anyone have a 1-piece driveshaft on their IS? I was thinking about ordering one (probably aluminum) this week from the driveshaft shop.

If you do, what were the dimensions you measured? I've got an Auto trans and just wanted another measurement to compare with.

Also, anyone know if the supra has the same trans as the IS? Sorry if these seem like stupid questions. I'm just new to the IS supra, gs...2jz and would like to find out more.

um, we already have 1 piece driveshafts...

Supra Auto transmissions are a340e's, IS auto trans' are a650e... difference - power handling and Supra's are 4 speed, IS are 5 speed autos...

We do? I was under the impression the IS300 A650e trans had the carrier bearing (much like many RWD vehicles)? I haven't looked for myself I was just doing some research before tore into it. I'll be sure to check it out tomorrow.

isn't this the factory drive shaft for an IS?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/01-02-03-04-05-LEXUS-IS300-REAR-DRIVE-SHAFT-AUTO-TRANSMISSION-OEM-/190804542462?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c6cd643fe&vxp=mtr
I was thinking this was a 2-piece design where as one from HPF or driveshaft shop would be a 1-piece.

Hmm, could be wrong, coulda swore it was one piece under there, never paid that much attention (and I've had the motor/trans out twice) to be honest... way better ways to improve performance for that kind of money... I focus on engine and electronics (turbo and standalone)...

Hold on... you did a manual swap and at the same time installed a 1 piece shaft, and attribute the aggressive feeling to the driveshaft and not the transmission???

I think 1 pice drive shaft even on auto will make your car feel a little bit more aggressive.
Because u don't loose as much power or torque like a 2 pice shaft.

lets say a stock IS300 makes 220 hp from the factory at the crank... now, lets say we have a 18% drivetrain loss, which is 40hp... Even if you could reduce drivetrain loss by 25%, you would only be getting back 10hp from the installation of a one piece driveshaft... Most of drivetrain loss is friction anyways, not weight...

What does a one piece driveshaft cost? there are a lot better ways to spend that money, IMO, but to each their own...

You know you're absolutely right about the power gains/$ ratio. I'm just modifying certain areas of the car first to not affect the quality of the ride too drastically right now. I've got 3 semesters left of college then I can begin the real fun of modifying and toying around with forced induction. As of right now, I'm just trying to prepare the chassis suspension & drive train to make the ride a little more enjoyable. Not saying it's not enjoyable now of course, I'm conducting a little investigation of my own as well. So you could say this inquiry for the dimensions of the 1-piece for "research"
