I need IS300 maintenance info and advice...
So, I recieved an e-mail from a non-CL member asking this:
Please discuss and reply. Thanks!
"I have my eye on a 2002 IS300 Sport Cross with about 52k miles on it. Is there anything in particular I should be on the lookout for? Are routine service costs like oil changes on the expensive side? People keep telling me that maintaining a Lexus will drive me into poverty. Are there any particular weaknesses in the IS300?"

As far as maintenance issues, I'm a college student pay for everything by myself and i don't think its anymore expensive then any other car that i have had. oil changes are within reason if you cant do them yourself. Lexus charges about 45 dollars for oil changes and you get a free car wash. As far as parts go i mean you drive a Lexus your going to pay more for parts. if your smart and shop around, you can enjoy your Lexus and not lose your arm maybe just a finger or two. But then again if it was easy to own a Lexus everyone would have one

Service will kill you if you do it at the dealer.
30k= ~$600
60k= ~$1200
90k= ~$2200
...and the intermediate ones arent cheap either, around $300. If you DIY, you can save a TON, or find a Lexus certified shop and you can still save quite a bit. Most of that is labor at ~$110/hour. Not to mention the older model owners are being treated like red-headed step-children by most of the dealers nowadays.

Thanks for the info. I'm the person who asked Philip MSPT the questions about maintenance. I'm leaning towards getting a 2002 IS300 SportCross. The car has about 52k miles and looks incredible. Full service records too.
The option to use Lexus certified mechanics or shops sounds like a great idea and I just have to find a recommended place in the northern VA area.
