Peace everyone!

I'm an M5 (02) owner and I wanted to clear up some confusion I've seen posted here.

First, the M5 and M3 are basically the same in their 0-60 times. Both do it in 4.7 (of course with professional drivers), but 4.8 seems to be produced somewhat regularly from some friends of mine. (I've never clocked myself, but I'm confident that I couldn't achieve these numbers.) However, from 60 on, the M5 eats the M3 up!

Second, this car will definitely be faster than either the M5 or M3 in nearly (if not) all ways, period!

Third, if you put a supercharger on an M5 (as a couple members of our forum are doing), watch out! Conservatively, they are looking at 540+ HP!

Fourth, there's always a faster car out there! The car you choose comes down to a combination of driveability, power, handling, styling, and affordability. In other words, there's much more to deciding on a car than just raw power. For me, the M5 styling, luxury and power combination just fit. I love the look and the understated appearance! I don't particularly care for the Lexus styling and I certainly didn't want an automatic transmission. That's just me though. Many of you all probably don't care for BMW styling. No problem.

You all will have one incredible car here if it is ever produced!! I will watch out for any if they make it to the road and give it it's due respect!

Coming in peace from the M5'ers,

Dallas

Hey thanks for keeping things civil. I do think your car is sweet too. I'd love to have one myself, but it would take two of my cars plus some extra change to buy one. Maybe some day.

Finally! Someone that owns a "competitor" to Lexus, but still has sense. I wish the thread about the new Infinity could have had people like this, on both sides of the argument...

I love the M5, and personally I've always love the styling of bimmers. I just love the SC a little more. heh

Welcome to the board Dallas!

Thanks for the kind words!

I wrote my comments in light of the fact that there had been some BMW guys over here just flaming the heck out of this board and I thought that was just silly! Cars are just cars and arguing (and getting personal) over them is like two guys arguing over which girl is more attractive. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Of course on the flip side, facts are facts, and if Lexus builds this car and it delivers at 4.5 in the 0-60, then it will be faster than my M5. In fact I might want one, but it would never replace my M5 (we affectionately call them BEASTS). We're all hoping for the rumored (but far from substantiated) next generation M5 with a V-10 and somewhere around 550HP!! I'll believe it when I see it in my garage, but I'm still hoping! (Actually, I'm already #6 on my dealer's list for the M6 which might come out around 2005 or 2006 with the same engine!)

Also, I knew that you guys in gerneral are not as passionate about BMW's as we are, so I wanted to get the facts out there about the 0-60 times for the M5 and M3.

If you guys are ever curious about M5 info, come on over to the M5 board at bmwm5.com. It's very professional, generally serious, and full of info! Of course, don't bother if you're going to start flaming us as we are a very civil group, but the moderators are very tight. We do love a good, constructive debate! That being said, keep in mind that it is a BMW board and 99.9% of the users feel they just bought the best practical car ever made, so I doubt you'll make many converts. Hope you guys feel the same way about your cars!

Take care,

Dallas

Dallas...welcome. It sounds like bmwm5.com is like Clublexus except that its for M5's not Lexus' but i mean in terms of rules, etc. I think that everyone on here will agree that it is nice to hear from a civil and worth while BMW owner.....i know i haven't for a while. I can tell that u r an educated person w/ their facts straight and i respect u for that. Personally i love the M5's styling. I know that it is the top BMW on my list...especially after seeing my dad's friends silver/silver M5:eek:  . So, do u have any mods on ur car?
Anyways, thanks for being civil and keeping things easy for the moderators.

Nope, no mods on the M5. I love it the way it is and it's performance is already awesome! The only thing I may add is Supersprint exhaust for about 7-8 more HP and 12-15 ft-lbs more torque. Even that is really more cosmetic (even deeper rumble than stock) than performance oriented.

On our cars additional significant performance (power-wise) requires pretty significant modifications and that means big $$$ that won't be recovered on the sale of the car. Supercharging is still mostly experimental, but will run you in the $20K range. A couple of our members have had their car shipped to Germany for tuning. They are getting around 540HP withOUT forced induction! Performance like that comes with a serious price though and they ended up dropping about $55K(!!) to get it done!! Most reasonably priced mods have to do with handling and braking which is certainly $$ better spent for the street situations. I may end up with a Dinan Stage III suspension, but it will be after I grow tired of the current stock form.

Here's a question for you guys: Why get the SC300 and mod is up for performance when you can get the SC430 stock? (I'm sure you can tell how low my Lexus IQ is by that question! )

You guys take care,

Dallas

Dallas, not to sound like a broken record but we need more of you guys over here. It's always good to have input from another car enthusiast. It'll help to keep us on our toes and in making sure that we help Lexus strive for the place as the 'Ultimate Driving Machine'.... That will push both companies towards creating cars that are simply incredible.

I agree with you CmputerWiz about the Infinity thread. They make great cars too, and some of the guys in there have just gotten out of hand. We need a couple of the WRX guys over here too.

Dallas, what is the resale like on your car? Say a 2000, or 1999 (I know they are very scarce)? Oh and it sounds like the colors on your car are sweet, nearly mine just with a darker interior.

Well.... You can't really mod the 8cyls for (high) performance (on a budget...you can mod anything with unlimited $$).

All the turbo SC's here are over 400hp at the wheels, which is ~470 at the crank. I've been running 19psi on racegas, factory compression, and just the other day started messing with a 125 shot of n2o. I'm sure I'm *well* over 500 at the wheels.... But with this compression, I think I've done a good job of frying the rings, which gives me the reason to finally throw the new stroker block in...lol I'm going for 1000hp.

Jeff (sc300turbo) has a *reliable* 550hp or something like that, because he's at 8.5:1 compression. He's going to be at 650hp or so within the next few weeks, and all readings are at the wheels.

Plus the new bodystyle of the sc430 is dog ugly, IMO. Bring back the 2000 bodystyle and usefulness. (ya I'm sure I'm getting flamed on this one...lol)

The SC300 has the same engine as the Toyota Supra NA 93 - 98 so you can imagine the performance parts available for it....

Thanks for the info!

I learn something from all the boards!

It really makes sense as the M5 is VERY expensive to modify significantly (as stated in my previous post). Of course, part of our problem is the limited production. TONS more M3's out there than M5's.

Your cars are definitely rockets with that kind of HP!! I guess I'll have to settle for my lowly "slow" stock M5. Your info just furthers my premise that "there's always a faster car out there."

Hey computwiz, do you have the 2jz-gte motor in there or do you have the 2jz non supra motor built to the teeth? 1000 hp damn that is nice. my supra's highest dyno so far is about 620 hp and 560 ft/lb of torque and it is a ***** to control, I don't want to even ask about 1000 hp!!! I agree with you on the twin turbo set up of the v8(1uz motor). That thing would then be a real beast!! Hey Richie, if you get a chance, go to MKIV.com in the readers ride section, there is a twin turbo lexus v8 powered supra making 1800 hp at the crank and 1400+ at the wheels!!! If that is not enough to convince you of the power potential of the lexus v8, then go to the supraforums' general info and find the topic 1500hp supra. There is another lexus v8 powered car making 2000+ hp!!!!!!!!!!!! I would like that in an IS, the 400 hp crank is just not enough for me personally, thus a supercharger just won't do justice to the power capability of that motor.
