Default How Bad does this look? Damaged 03

I have an chance to pick up this 2003 w/46k for a good price. I'm going to see it Thursday/Friday, but wanted to get some input on how bad it looks. For the most part its going to need a new fender, hood body work and a new aftermarket front bumper cover (something along the line of the L-sportline). And any inner fender parts and paint.

All this I can do, the paint I'll send it out. I havn't painted a car in over 12 years and I don't think I want to relearn on this car.

Doesnt look that bad, really. New bumper cover, probably bumper support and maybe bracket(s), new fender, refinish the hood. Doesnt look like any real structural damage from the pics. Take it to a body shop. Most will give you a free estimate. My guess is around $2000-2500. Cant really tell from the pic, but looks like the headlight is scratched up pretty bad too. Add another $500 or so for that. It's been a while since I worked in a shop though.

Let us know what you find out.

I say the damage doens't look bad at all (agreeing w. btorok here)

Reason I would hesitate is: what kind of damage can't you see that this person may have caused their vehicle?

example: my last vehicle was in a super bad car accedent [other guys fault for being drunk] and it was almost written off, but because the engine was ok, insurrance decided to fix it ... my vehicle was never the same after that and little things would always be going wrong, even though it looked fine.

I'm not saying that this particular damage (on the IS you're looking at) may have caused further underlying problems. However, I would pay the $200 to take it to Lexus and have them do the full blown inspection.

Nothing worse than buying someone elses' BIG problem.

To expand on what Faymester posted, while that particular damage doesn't look bad, would you really want to follow an owner that didn't give enough of a crap to get it fixed? Seems like a neglected vehicle and it makes me wonder what other problems the owner didn't bother fixing or if the owner even bothered with scheduled maintenance.

There are some damages near the fogs also, and those wheels are Fugly...

I have to agree with SDLexus, but depending on the price, and the results from a full inspection, it may be doable... (+ if he includes the stock wheels)

I got a chance to see it and the body work is nothing compaired to the neglect I found.

The wipers were snapped off and could not be turned off. Could be wiper switch, motor or wireharness. Any ideas?

The brakes were gone.

The interior has a strong smell of cigs. Also in need of an extreme detailing.

The ABS idiot light was on. I found a cut wire coming out of the inner right-rear-fender (body side). I assume this is the signal wire for the ABS. He blow out one of those crappy tires. It looks like the tire came off the rim and cut the wire.

The brakes were gone. I mean full metal on metal.

The interior has a strong smell of cigs. Also in need of an extreme detailing. Not knowing the miles, I would guess it had way over 100k or a spoiled punk owned it and didn't care.

The oil was right on the dipstick, but was very dark on at the bottom and smelt like oil and dirt mixed together aka OLD.

The ABS idiot light was on. I found a cut wire coming out of the inner right-rear-fender (body side). I assume this is the signal wire for the ABS. He went off the road and blow out one of those crappy tires. It looks like the tire came off the rim and cut the wire.

I gave a good offer for it. Since the car is being sold for someone else. They need to get back to me.
Walk away from that black hole....
