Ive had my car do the same thing but it would even stall while on the freeway... after taking it to the dealer they said that there was a short in the battery. They replaced the battery and it hasnt happened since

Default stalling

i did some further studying today and it seems as if the car either has the idle set to low, or the car is not downshifting quick enough allowing the rpm's to dip too low. my car idles around 500-700 rpm, does that sound right

The 500-700 rpm idle is in the right range. To me it sounds like the problem is that the computer is allowing the rpm to fall too low when the accelerator pressure is removed quickly. So it's dropping below the 500 rpm mark which causes it to stall. Carburators used to have a valve that stopped the accelerator from dropping too fast. Today it's done by computer.

Whether you smoke funny cigarettes or not the car shouldn't do this.

Sounds like a trip back to the dealer and a warranty repair is in order. If the service writer gives you a hard time just start ask to see his boss or the general manager until they address the problem.
