A lot of the things you guys have said are correct, but let me clarify some of it.
The new GS is going to arrive in March of 2005. The next IS is expected to follow shortly after that, probably around June. Expect a sedan, coupe, convertible and possibly wagon, as well as a variety of engines and transmissions. The base engine should be the 3.0L DI V-6 that's going to see fitment in the '06 GS300, and from there we should see a 3.5L 285HP turbo V-6, and probably a 4.5 or 4.6L V-8 making around 375 or 400HP. All engines should come standard with a close ratio six speed automatic transmission, or an available 6spd manual on the sedan and coupe.
The horsepower specs are not 100% accurate information, but are ballpark estimates. I'm sure we'll see the car in mid '05 with two V6's and a V8 as well as sedan, coupe, convertible and possibly wagon variants.

because this is a topic that has been beaten to DEATH....
Speculation is such a waste of time....
when Lexus decides to unveil it, its so silly to go pages and pages of discussing it...
lets talk about it a year from now when we actually have REAL information from the source itself....
the 2005 model IS300 is about to hit the dealer showroom, and its the same as its been...no changes...
the 2006 model will likely be the bodychange/engine change....Lexus usually announced them end of the summer...thus, August 2005 is the likely time period we will finally find out whats really going to happen with the evolution of the IS300..
another interesting way to keep tabs on this is to keep an eye on what Toyota decides to do this fall/winter with the Altezza....

I guess it'd matter on how much power it had, but right now I think it'd be foolish for Lexus to bring the next IS here with anything less than 245HP, which directly points to the 3.0L DI V-6. Doesn't the 2.5L have like 200HP or something? If the current car is so badly criticized for having 215HP, I can't see them putting in anything less than that.
