Is there an easy way for me to see if my 2002 IS300 is equipped with LSD? i am sure this has been discussed before but i was unable to find it in the forum. any help with this qould be greatly appreciated. thanks

 

If you can get the car on a lift, spin one rear wheel (make sure the car is in neutral), if they both spin in the same direction, you have LSD. If they spin in alternate directions you have a open dif.

 

depends on what kind of lsd you have. if it has the torsen lsd just like that of the supra, it will still spin in different direction....

i am not sure what kind of lsd is on the is3 (if you have it)

i remember there is a way to tell if you have lsd from the labels on the driver side door, i can try to dig it out

 

I have an LSD on my IS, I haven't tested it on a lift. I also had an RX-7 with an LSD, I discovered it on that car by spinning the tires and they both went in the same direction. That's my only experience. Another way to check is to power brake the car until the tire(s) spin. If only one tire leaves a tread mark you don't have an LSD.

 

I have a 01 and when I do my phatty burnouts only one tire leaves a mark. This means I have LSD?? What is better?

 

yeah i remember reading that when i was doing homework on lsd. some lsd if you spin one wheel, the other will spin in the same direction. but on torsen type, if you spin one, the other would still go the opposite directly, just like the open diff.

on a lift, one way you can test if you have torsen (couple of people) is, one guy turn the drive shaft, both wheels will spin. another guy hold one wheel when drive shaft is turning, the wheel won't go anywhere and the other wheel will spin (free spinning). now someone apply slight pressure on the wheel that's free spinning, suddenly the guy holding the wheel will feel force turning the wheel

 

sad to say, you don't have lsd, just a open diff. assume you have lsd and on good condition road (same left and right), you will leave two tire marks
