The turbo will yield you power but if you want reliability for everyday driving, a supercharger kit will probably be the most practical.
Then why are you asking us???
As for robbing power, a centrifugal supercharger that is used on the IS kits uses very little power to operate, nothing compared to the power it adds. Turbo is nice, but it all depends on how far you want to go. The supercharger kits, since they tend to be less hp require less on the fuel side to keep it properly tuned. I personally would consider the vortech kit from PLP, mostly because that is about all the power I would really need, and keeping the car easy to control on the racetrack is something important to me. Remember, the more power you make, the more you can brake, and the more expensive the parts are to upgrade, especially if you are planning to do much drag racing.

TURBO!
But for now, if i were you, i would save up 7K that you are planning to supercharge or turbo mod, and wait for 2006 GS300. ( i mean if you really don't need a car right away) it's just my 2 cents.

You are planning on getting the car crashed??!!! trust me, you dont want to do that. i give you a better idea. why dont you tell your insurance agency that you misplaced your can and you cant recall where you keep it? that's a lot better i think. and why do you want to spend more money on the engine when you car is already totalled? you just want the engine turbo charged and use it on the electric generator?
I am sorry if these offense you ( and i dont mean to offense you or anyone) but your words are more confusing than the organic chemistry.

I have also heard that you can find wrecked (but not necessarily trashed) is300's for around $7-8k.
put the $8k into bodywork, and for $15-16k you may have a car that would have cost about $22-23k used for a comparable example.
Is this true, or realistic?
going on the turbo vs.supercharger theme, while it may make sense that you can have an out of the box, bolt-on or nearly bolt-on s/c kit for the is300that makes an additional (how much? about) 50-58hp to the wheels, isn't it true that you have more flexibility and more upgradeability if you choose the turbo route?
