First time posting I recently bought a 2005 IS300 I have ?
So as post said my question is can some one go and explain to me the way lighting work my high beams dont seem to be working, but I pulled the connection to see if im getting power when everything is on car engine side of things and I don't seem to be getting power to high beams thought is bulb but bulbs looked good so... Im kindly asking for a time I know cars pretty well but was hoping for quick dig or opions or where I need to be looking exactly?
Thx for any help.
ps:sorry if its a dumb question I was raised the only dumb question is the one u dont ask...
The high beams are also used for the DRL. Do your DRLs work? There is a resistor box under the hood. Maybe that went bad. You can check if you have power there.
It looks like this, it's at the left of the engine bay when you open the hood, mounted by the wheel well, with the yellow sticker on it:
Though, I think the high beam should still work anyway regardless of the resistor box. I unplugged mine to disable the high beam, and it still worked.

so tested my light bulbs and they work so im gonna have to do some digging on why they are not coming on when with switch on if u got any idea on where i should start please let me kown any pointers u may have thx agian.
I did some more digging today i relized my highbeam light indicator is also not coming on checked fuese and they were all good so im thinking its a bad switch after 20 years i guess i could check ballast as well but i know the light bulb is working correctly and tested it so i guess next is to check switch? kinda using u as sounding board to make sure im not forgetting anything.
There is no "ballast" for the high beam, just the HID low beam. But that is a good detail that you don't see the high beam indicator either. Do you hear any sort of clicking at all when you turn the high beams on and off? If your low beams and fog lights are on, do the fog lights turn off when you turn on the high beams like they should? The switch stalk does go bad over time, or rather, it does get dirty and gummed up and perhaps needs a good cleaning and new electrical grease.
I do have ballast as well but was more so thinking that since the blue high beam indicator dose not come on at all that the switch is not sending signal to even turn the lights one?
how would u go about testing ballast? do resistants test on?
