1JZ-GTE VVTi won't drop below 3000rpm
Hey all,
I have a 2001 IS300 with 1JZ-GTE VVTi manual swap.
A bit of history. The car originally comes from Miami, Fl ran fine with no issue, stock single turbo, 15psi of boost; 3" turbo back future fab exhaust, no cat, no res.
Gets imported to Toronto, no issues till you step on. Full throttle, start banging gears, 1st fine, 2nd fine, 3rd, 4th and 5th, at around 4000rpm, the car cuts off and then goes again. Goes in overboost to 17-20psi in all gears.
If you keep the throttle open half way, it will boost to 5-10psi, rpm will go up fairly quick but won't cut off.
With old owner, we think it could be due to the cold temperatures (from 24°C to -5°C) who knows.
After 3months owning the car, that's the only issue I have.
Now, just last week, coming back home from work, normal driving, no fooling around. All the sudden, car revs up automatically to 3000rpm and won't drop, throttle is not stuck (DBW). It won't build boost either. Almost feels NA. Problem goes away while driving home. Boosts normally as well. Then happens again. I get home, turn off the car. Try to start it but she'll crank, but no start. At one point I managed, somehow to start it. Feels a bit rough, then revs up again to 3000rpm, take it for a drive and beside that drives normal, but still no boost. Shut it off, and shes hasn't started since.
No idea what could be. I have spark, took all the plugs out and there is spark on all six (NGK BKR6EIX) and I'm pretty sure I got fuel. Sssso what do you guys think?
Sorry for the long read, but I didn't want to leave anything out. Thank you in advance!

Thanks everyone for the input, my inbox was toooo full to keep up
Anyway, if anyone will have similar problem, check fuel filter, mine overworked soooo hard due to filter being clogged that it started to melt from the connector.
I thought i had fuel to cylinders because i could smell it, but it wasn't the case
The high idle was something soo stupid and overlooked, tps needed to be tighten........ yup, i know
car now runs, but still have overboost problems

I currently have the same issue i got the car sometime last year . It was relatively stock 1j besides of a future fab downpipe. It was running into a boost cut at around 12 psi in 3rd gear. Wo i ran a fuel cut defender but wondering if i shouldve tried a new pump. The car runs good now but only makes 9-10 psi and ive boost leak tested and swapped out the center cartridge to a steel blades. On the 15 psi are you running a boost controller?

As for overboost, boost controller won't do anything cause everything is stock-ish, fuel cut didn't work. Now I'm waiting to get the engine back from machine shop, but best solution is to get a standalone
The DTCs you retrieved (P1300 and P1765) can provide valuable information about potential issues with the engine management system. Research these codes to determine their specific meanings and possible causes, and use them as a starting point for further diagnosis. Since you mentioned that the car originally came from Miami and is now in Toronto with much colder temperatures, it's possible that the cold weather is affecting certain components or sensors in the engine management system. Consider checking for any signs of moisture or corrosion in the electrical connectors and sensors, and ensure that all components are properly insulated against the cold.
Well, we'll see what happens now, back in November I spun a bearing and I still didn't get my engine back. I'll update if overboost problem goes away
