Default Calling 450H owners please! Hybrid mode only

For some odd reason, I am getting SFairly poor mpg on my new 450h. The trip odometer and everything has been reset, and unfortunately I am looking at about 32 miles per gallon. Everything with tires is on point, not lifting anything very heavy, I also I'm using premium gas. I'm on echo mode.

The only thing is my trips are pretty short, about 5 to 7 1/2 minutes each way, so the engine does have to warm up a little bit before the car goes into cruise/ev mode.

I just wanted to know what you guys are getting, what is your experience with MPG with the hybrid mode, in the city.

I pretty consistently get 32mpg or so, but on the highway. I use mostly EV in town and really have no idea what the gas mileage is on those tanks. Longer trips at higher speeds, standard (not eco) mode, some amount of lead footing. 2 450hs, both similar results. If I'm really careful I can get about 35mpg. This is strictly from the dash gauge, I've never had a tank where I didn't use some EV miles, so I've never been able to actually calculate it myself. I'll probably try next time I'm doing a long trip and estimate how many EV miles I used.

What's yer tire pressure? We're finding this affects things quite a bit. We picked it up new from the dealership at about 37psi and got it back after its 5k mile service closer to 40psi and we're now getting a few more EV miles out of it.

Short in time trips do make for inefficient trips - so that's definitely part of your problem, @450hPlus . We're seeing much closer to 40MPG (35-39 most of the time), but our trips are always significantly longer so it's a tough comparison.

Why run a car that is designed to run on electric in the city on hybrid mode? The motor is designed to work with the batteries. Electric high torque at low speed and the engine delivers high torque at high speed.

just curious.

Def a good point... for a trip that short the whole thing should be EV! I presume unable to charge it... or they just like having all the horsepower all the time. . (That's the big downside to EV only...)
