Service intervals and maintenance at older age
Hi all,
Sorry, this topic may have been covered in part in past posts.
My ES300h car is now at 72,000 miles, 5 years old.
As mentioned I recall in the non-hybrid ES posts, looking at the service manual, which goes up to 150,000 miles, it appears that the manufacturer recommended service items just keep repeating their basic cycle:
1) Every 10,000 miles synthetic oil and filter change with cabin filter
2) in between 5,000 miles is really just tire rotation and basic fluid checks, which I do myself and have tire shop do the tires for free
3) every 15,000 adds some extra inspections only
4) every 30,000 adds extra inspections and also brake fluid replacement.
It appears that the cycle repeats endlessly like this, with no extra items beyond the 30,000 items, is that correct? (assuming no issues are found on the inspection items). Also the manual only goes up to 150,000 miles in the service recommendations section, but I assume it would just keep repeating beyond 150,000 miles?
ie. - as we know, there is no timing belt so no timing belt change at all...
the CVT is all enclosed and so barring any problems, there is no CVT service item for the life of the car
there is no specific hybrid system service item built in to the schedule, assuming no problems ?
is that correct?
the reason I am asking is because of a common question that comes up for most models: I still go the the dealership, and prefer to do so, because it is convenient, can go on saturdays, and I have no nearby indie service center with saturday hours. However, the Lexus dealer have their own package of each mileage interval "dealer recommended service" that costs about $100 extra on top of just the manufacturer recommended items (and the items they do are not listed in the manual). I would rather start going in and just asking a la carte for the manufacturer recommended items only, rather than the "dealer package". eg I would rather just ask for what I want: "please do oil and filter change and cabin filter and multipoint inspection only", rather than asking for "please do your 80,000 mile service".
is that reasonable to ask for for the hybrid ES?
thanks!

Well, there are some maintenence items that are beneficial.
1) I got the CVT oil changed because I do not believe in lifetime anything, except taxes. MG1 spins at extremely high rpm and the CVT oil undergoes very high shear. It is a safe thing to do.
2) My car has 105,000 miles (2014) and it seems to me that the radiator hoses feel soft. This weekend I plan to change the coolant and the hoses. The anti corrosive components in the coolant start deteriorating and it is a good idea to replace it.
3) At some point I will also plan to replace the inverter coolant, as soon as I figure out how to do it.
4) Very important to make sure that the hybrid battery fan is clean. The 2014 and prior models do not have a filter and the fan can get dirty.

so regarding high voltage battery cleaning - at 80,000 miles, the dealer says their package is:
"
The owners manual does not say anything about cleaning high voltage battery filter. Is this necessary?
"
- Includes:- Replace engine oil & oil filter.
- Replace cabin air filter.
- Rotate wheels following manufacturer's recommended sequence.
- Brake Inspection
- Perform Battery Test
- Clean High Voltage Battery Intake Filter."
