Gas Cap induced light show?
Had an interesting situation. I stopped for gas and after filling up replaced the gas cap. Normally I make the cap click several times while tightening but this time it only clicked once or twice and I wasn't really paying attention. When I started up, the dash immediately lit up with warnings. "Check Hybrid System" and "Check SRS" messages cycling in the display with both the caution and airbag light also illuminated. It was only a 5 minute drive home so I just drove home. During that time I had the energy monitor on the screen, but it showed none of the usual "arrow" activity. The vehicle performance seemed completely normal but the battery seemed to be depleting. When I stopped at home, I removed and replaced the gas cap wondering if somehow this was related, as I've heard other people having odd situations when gas caps are not properly in place. After replacing the cap and starting up again, the display continued to show "Check Hybrid System" with the caution light on, but the "Check SRS" message was gone and airbag light was off, and the energy monitor now showed the arrow activity and the hybrid battery began charging from it's almost depleted state. Again, vehicle performance was completely normal. After a couple days driving in this state, I decided to dig out my blue tooth code reader and see what code might be present. I plugged it in and while syncing with my phone I turned on the car and.... no warnings whatsoever. I searched on my phone and there were no stored codes either. It has been working fine for the last couple of weeks.
My question is, does this sound like something induced by a poorly installed gas cap, it all seems so extreme if so, or is it just coincidence I had some kind of startup glitch that happened to occur after filling up?
