2013 rx450h - 18 or 19" wheels - noise level
Hi all,
My husband and I are excited as we will be buying a 2013 pearl white rx450h CPO with 14k miles trading in our Dodge ram 1500 crew cab sport. Is 42k a good offer? It has the comfort, navigation and premium packages. I test drove a 2012 equipped with 19" alloy wheels at Carmax last night, and the road noise could be heard pretty loud. So my question is: should I opt for the 18 instead if I want the suv to be quieter? Please advise! Thank you.

No, I don't play soccer!
Welcome to CL, dragon6473. I agree with Andy. Tire brand is more related to noise than rim size. You might want to peruse the tire thread and see some of the comments in there about the OE tires.

I'm very pleased with the 19's on my 13h; and it looks like I'm the only guy on the planet who's happy with the OEM Bridgestone Dueler 400's.
I find that road composition is the big variable. I have a roadster with summer-only high performance tires that others (those mysterious "others" on review sites like Tirerack.com) complained about noise with that particular brand of tire. I'm on the second set on that car; and until just last week - where we happened down a very shiny road - I had never even heard my tires. On that road, they sang quite a song.
A good song on the CD renders most subjective analysis moot.

Interesting.
I had read threads wherein I was warned (not just me - a general warning) that I should expect less than 15,000 miles of life out of those tires.
Geez! I thought the tires on my Z4 wore fast - but 15,000?!? I got better mileage than that on my GoldWing's rear tire.
Well, I'm now at over 33,000 K U.S. Michigan (and some other states) miles; and at the 30K service, they measured the tires to have 6/32" left.
They were wearing pretty well - however I just scrubbed some additional wear off the edges on a jaunt on the TotD (see the 4th Gen Hybrid thread/post); and if I were to replace them today - I'd give serious consideration to a replacement (although I have a subliminal prejudice for Michelin that would distract me a bit).

it comes with 4 brand new Nexens RU5 SUV 235/55ZR19 105W. The dealer won't change out the tires. My husband is going to take delivery of the vehicle next Sunday. We are excited.

Nope, I also am very happy with my 19's & OEM Duelers, so there's at least two of us that are pretty happy campers. (I just didn't want the OEM Dunlops that were also being shipped on RXs here in the US, given all the negative feedback I had read here about them before I ordered my 2012/13.)

Nexen tires are not bad at all afterall
Hello,
I finally got to see the car this morning. It's very nice. I took my girl to school today and the ride was great going through bumps. I guess these Nexen aren't bad, perhaps due to driving back from Portland to Wa smoothed them out.
