Adaptive radar cruise control

No, I don't play soccer!
It's listed in the '11 brochure, Pre-Collision System and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. It's not exactly useful in traffic with cars cutting in and out of my lane. The distance setting is long, maybe six car lengths at the lowest setting. I barely use it. Sometimes I wish I had normal cruise control. Chances are this option would be available through special order.

David, as far as I know, I can't disable it. It looks like this when I turn on cruise control. More bars means I'm closing in on a car. Another car shows up when I'm getting close to another car and it slows down. I don't have a clear picture of that because it's hard to do while driving 70 MPH, which I don't do very often p

as kiltz said, only useful in highway, and only during long stretches without traffic weaving in/out of your lane. i used it only once during a trip to oregon. if you don't do lots of highway driving, this is one option you can skip (unless you like your RX to have all the bells and whistles).

yes you can switch it back to normal! All you do is activate cruise control and then you push the lever forward (towards the front of the car) for a second and it switches back to normal.
I have used it on the highway and I can see it being good for long stretches of roads and during long road trips, but in everyday freeway driving, it is way too sensitive to cars and I find my own driving to be more economical. That said, I like to use it during city driving too just so that I can see it doing emergency type braking and also the warning on my HUD. Dont worry, my foot hovers on the brake pedal since it stops braking at around 20mph

Learn something new every day I don't drive on highways often so I haven't used it that much, maybe four times. I'll have to disable it next time because there's way too much traffic by me. Funny, isn't that what it's for??

Dynamic cruise is only half of the option. The real value to me is the precollision system. I have had it since 2004 on my LS. It has saved me from 2 potential accidents.

Im not sure how the pre collision worked on your LS, but on the RX it really doesnt do much. Tightening seat belts? sure I guess that helps. But the car doesnt actually begin to stop until you press on the brake pedal. All the system is supposedly doing is priming brake assist. But the thing is, brake assist is supposed to be a predictive brake that is standard on all Lexus models. If it senses an immediately pedal to brake action, or even quick brake, it will push down at full force. So really, when we are in a world of Mercedes vehicles that actually stop themselves, close windows and moonroof, adjusts seats to optimum positions, the RX is really just a lite version

Thanks for your replies RXSF
here it says it will apply the brakes ?

Quote" If PCS judges a collision to be highly possible, it will alert the driver and, when he or she begins to brake, it will activate Pre-Crash Brake Assist to supplement the driver’s braking effort. If the driver does not brake and a collision is inevitable, the Pre-Crash Brake will automatically apply the brakes to reduce impact speed."
What do you think ?

Last year some idiot decided to cut across a few lanes to make a last minute exit while I was in the exit lane doing 50 MPH (ramp speed was 45 MPH). I hit the brakes hard to avoid a collision. They were more powerful. The seat belt also tightened up. Other than a little scare nothing came out of it thank God.
I was in an MB years ago that braked automatically while approaching traffic. It's a technology that needs to be in all vehicles.

No, it doesnt apply the brake automatically. People think that it does since it is called pre collision system, and a lot of cars out there brake automatically, but only the one in the LS brakes itself
