Hello everyone. I stay in the ls430 section but my mother just got a 1 owner 2008 starfire pearl ls600hl with 80k miles on the dot. My father haggled to what i would say is a Very good deal. I pulled up service history through mylexus site and it is impeccable. 9 pages and all major repairs done including air shocks, control arms and even hybrid battery has been replaced. I will be maintaining the car for her. I had some questions maybe some ls600 owners can help me with. What is the mileage interval for oil changes? I notice it is almost 10 quart capacity. What is the interval for spark plugs? Is there a timing belt or water pump service at 90k miles? Any other known problems to keep an eye out for? Thank you
I'm not a 600 owner, but I don;t believe there's much difference in maintenance between the two.
Oil changes: This is subjective. Assuming your car is not under any warranty, most owners here are using 10k mile intervals. Some do 5k miles, but that is overkill with today's synthetic oils. My advice is to use Toyota oil. I've never been brand specific in the 35 years I've owned cars, but for several reasons, (including the unique VVT-I system), I highly advise it.
Spark plugs: I changed mine at 6 years and about 80k miles.
There is no timing belt on these cars. The water pump needed replacement on my car at 120k miles as well due to a leak.
There are cabin (pollen) filters that replacement every year.
Engine air filters (there are two), should be changed every two years.
Another highly debated issue is transmission fluid. All LS vehicles sold around the globe require a fluid change..... except in the U.S. I don't know why that is and it makes no sense. You decide.
The brakes need to be flushed every two years. I highly advise to follow that interval. Same with coolant. it needs to be drained and replaced the first time at around 100k miles and thereafter every 40-60k miles. I don't have my manual to double check the numbers, but it's all in there.
Lastly, diff fluid has a set interval for replacement as well, which I believe is 40k miles or 4 years. Something like that.....again, it's all in the manual.
The good news is that these cars are very easy to work on. I do all my own work and have no professional background in mechanics. I have several DIY's here on CL and you can find them in the FAQ's, including the spark plugs service.

Welcome to CL!
Change oil every 5k miles/six months, Use 9.1 Qts. Spark plugs every 60k. No timing belt, it is chain. Water pump, when it leaks.
