Hi kos, after you change the motor was there more problems with transmisson? Just wanted to check as the mechanic said that P2797 code is quite rare and might signal more problems with the transmission itself as some of the metal chips off the worn out bearing might have ended up in the transmission

Update: i just ordered the bearings , thinking of replacing it sometime next week, just needed to get toyota atf and the code reader

Nope. Car runs beautiful. At the worst case scenario if the transmission is really the problem, you can always fix that later, as its much more costly. Its quite labor intensive as you have to drop the engine to swap out the tranny.

Keep in mind that refilling the ATF isnt the same as most vehicles. There is no dip stick used to measure fluid and there is no hole by the engine to refill at. You'll need a pump of some sort to pump the ATF back into the tranny. I bought a cheap hand pump from AutoZone. If you are facing the trans oil pump from the passenger side, a few inches to the left and a few inches up is where the bolt is located. You'll have to remove the bolt and pump the ATF through there. There are a few threads on here that describe the process of refilling and leveling it out in more detail. Depending on how many miles you have on your GS, you may just want to change out the ATF fluid entirely. That should help get rid of most of those bits your mechanic was referring to if any.

This is the diagnostic tool i use. Its cheap and connects via bluetooth to your phone.

Koz, finally got my fixed up by a mazda mechanic, it end up being exactly a bearing issue, the whole bearing have seized, which causes the pump motor not to turn.

all good now, for a price 1/10 of the oil pump price which the dealer quoted me at 3.5k , very happy indeed

Just want to help other forummers, if you replace the tranmission fluid, it needs to follow a certain procedure, not just hand pump and fill it up. My handson experience is that the car feels very jumpy and rough if its just handpump only, once i get the lexus dealer to fill it up with their procedure, its a world of difference, felt so much smoother, worth it for a price of $88 for half hour job.

Adding some photos for reference...
I had a spare transmission that i purchased initially, so i didnt have to take the pump apart entirely. Instead i just had to swap the pump from the spare transmission and car works great.

This is a spare transmission I purchased cause i thought i had to replace the whole transmission at first. The pump is the black cylinder in the middle

You'll have to remove the 4-bolts to the left that are sticking up.

All 4-bolts are shown here a bit clearer

These additional 4 bolts will take the unit apart

Easier to see them here.

i bought it from here:
http://www.skf.com/productcatalogue/...0-2Z&pubid=101

in limp mode i think I drove for about a day or two, i don't think the car will suddenly stop, but i spoke to my lexus dealer they won't even do the repair of the bearing, so i have to get a daring mechanic to do that. It was worth it in the end, after 2yrs it still running fine

Did you managed to fix your problem with bearing change?

3k is outrageous for this pump. I would take the chance to buy a used complete transmission from $600-1200, swap controller and or pump, then sell the other parts.

Thats exactly what I did. But the transmission is quite rare, and costed me on the higher end of your spectrum. $1250 shipped from thE bay. I have the old pump controller and bearings which I had hoped to swap out and sell, but havent had the time. Other than that i scrapped the remaining transmission for scrap metal for $65 lol. I dont have the space to leave a 200lb transmission lying around.
