- Happy with the MPG's??
For those of you that have the 400h, are the mpg's as true? Roughly 28 city 25 hwy? I've seen some as high as 33 and low as 19...I really want a rx but mpgs matter and I don't think I'd be happy with a 330/350...so is it really worth the extra money for the hybrid?

I've always gotten better highway mileage on mine. 22-26 city and 27-30 highway. A lot depends on the type of tires you have (low rolling resistance or not), the speed you drive, and how much you use the heater or AC. For a used RX400h you can get get good deals out there. I would not buy a 330/350 over a 400h.

My wife's Rx400h gets about 28 in the city and 25 on the hwy. I'm a lot better at hypermiling it around the city than she is, but the lifetime fuel economy is an averaged 27.5 mpg. The car does fantastic in slow-and-go traffic (up to 40mpg) on the freeway, but it's not too often that those conditions are available. Open highway mileage is horrible in my opinion, but we usually take my MK4 VW Golf TDI for road trips. It's hard to beat 45mpg and the ability to park just about in any spot. Then again, the Rx weighs about 33% more than the VW.

As I mentioned in your other thread: As with any vehicle, MPG varies by the individual's driving style, the driving conditions (city versus highway), terrain, weather, etc. Our lifetime average is about 23 (measured and calculated -- computer seems to be a bit optimistic), FWIW.
Again, only you can answer your question of worth. It's worth it to us but we're not considering only MPG's. The 400h feels smoother, rides a bit more comfortably and is a bit more quiet in our opinion. It's also faster though leadfooting it will reduce MPG's.

My wife had her RX in CA for the past 9 months. She never broke 22 mpg average anywhere in the state. Flat, hills, traffic, rural.... that expensive CA gas really kills the MPG. In FL we average 27 mpg as she drives pretty fast.

the more i see and am thinking about it i think the 400h is going to be it for me......i've been liking the silver trim instead of the wood as well but it's not a deal breaker...even if it doesn't come with navi or heated seats those items i can always add but from what i've seen most come with it standard.

My wife gets about 24.5 mpg in her 2008 RX400h AWD which is closer to 23.5 real mpg (the trip computer seems to be a bit optimistic compared to calculating it by hand). Considering this is all stop and go city driving and her old car (2004 MDX) got 16 mpg in the same driving, we are ecstatic with the mileage. She also really appreciates having to fill the car up less often.

so i was looking on edmunds consumer posts and alot of the recent ones i saw i saw the mpg's as an issue and the inverter costing upwards 10k+ but a few said it was covered under the recall. So is there a gamble with getting a hybrid? i'm expecting our first child and need a better suv on gas, my wife's escape will do for now but it get's crappy mpg's.

I'm close to the 400h or a prius but would much rather have the rx for the room

Owning hybrid is always a risk, but the prius has proven to be very reliable when looking at the inverter and batteries. I Feel the RX will continue that trend. I have 134k miles on mine and it has not had the recall, but will be included in this one. As for inverter, yes very expensive. THe batteries prices will drop as more and more hybrids are launched.
