The CVT is full of gears. Its not a belt (snowmobile) type hybrid system.

He's referring to the pseudo 2nd gear. Really though its its just the computer determining how much power is being sent to the rear diff.

What I was saying is it doesn't have any fixed gear ratios. Like I don't think there is a definitive "2nd gear".

Actually the 3rd gen 450GSh has two "speeds" after the hybrid drive from a raveneaux gear set. It's used to optimize both acceleration at low speeds and highway gas mileage at high speeds as well as maximizing regeneration since it can't eBrake as much being a RWD car. It's possible to detect the "shifting" if you are doing a passing maneuver in the 40-60MPH range as a very slight hesitation.
