hybrid battery life
I own a Lexus 2007 gs450h, now 8 years old. It is by far the best driving car I've ever owned (and I've had many). My car just turned over at 131,000 miles and at the same time by hybrid battery went kaput. It no longer charges, the check hybrid system warning came on, my check engine light came on, my vsc warning (vehicle stability control) is on, my ecb warning (electronic controlled brakes) is on, and my skid icon came on, as did a fan somewhere in the back of my car perhaps the trunk. I can't tell where but it is loud and fast. Today is sunday and I have not had my car serviced yet for a diagnosis but I have a really bad feeling about this one. I have never had an issue with this car until I took it to Lexus a week ago for a recall for fuel sensor sealer/gasket (I think thats what I remember). I am hoping that the service guys simply forgot to plug my battery pack back up after servicing.

Thanks Luis450R, Lexus claims that there is no plug for my hybrid battery and that when the check engine light comes on it shuts down the hybrid system. They also will not admit that they may have done something wrong to cause my car issues and therefore would have to charge me nearly $200 for a diagnostic. I don't think that fair since I hadn't even driven my car 50 miles after their servicing before the trouble started, but the 2 Lexus dealerships I have dealt with here in Illinois has not been fair with me since my car is no longer under warranty. I had another issue with my car one day after Lexus servicing one year ago that ended up costing me $1800. So while I love the car, the service personnel leaves a lot to be desired. My car is now at an auto shop that specializes in foreign cars and hopefully he can shed some light on what's going on with my car. He explained that while there is no plug per se, the hybrid battery is connected by cables. I'll keep you posted.

Another member in this forum posted a link http://www.falconhybrid.com , where you can buy a refurbished battery at 1/3 of the cost. I checked it out and may go that route.

1.5 years of ownership. Not alot of miles, less than 20K. So maybe I'm not a good sample. My '07 TL and my '09 Camry Hybrid are fully loaded with electronics. Both have had their respective 12 volt batteries replaced sooner than I expected. So maybe it's the fact modern autos just have too many power sucking options. Having said that, I can't imagine living without my 18 way power adjustable seats and 12.3 inch gigantor LED screen; my radar warning, my infra red eyeball scanner.....etc etc etc. Good God, I better keep a portable LiO booster charger in my trunk.

07 GS450h here with 190k miles.
Original traction battery still gets 7/8 bars, but light comes on once every few months and sometimes it goes away in hours or a few days.

2010 GS450h @ 156,000km (~97K miles)
Hybrid battery changed at around 100k, still going very strong.
