smassey 321 - excellent pictures!!. I have suffered through both leaks (the inverter where the two halves mate, and the transaxle like in your pictures).

I wonder if they are in fact rare, or if they are just not noticed by many owners. I am fairly obsessive with keeping my vehicle and engine clean, so I noticed both leaks fairly early. I bet a large number of owner's have never removed either of the engine covers to see what's under there, never mind checking for leaks. Factor in leased vehicles, which the leasee may never even open the hood, and there might be quite a few more leaking inverter/transaxle than one might suspect.

smassey 321 Thanks for the descriptive post. Can you describe exactly what the second picture is taken of?

The second picture is the right hand side of the engine seen from above. I took the pic shooting down just to the right of the air intake. It is very difficult to see down there so I would not bother looking until I noticed pink on the bottom of the transaxle where 90% of the pink ends up.

The regional rep has approved my transaxle replacement and if the part is in stock they will start tomorrow.

I would think the repair is still pretty rare as my dealer has never seen one leak before. My 06 was built in 2005 so this may be related to age more than mileage. I am only at 67k miles. The amount of pink on the bottom of the transaxle would be pretty obvious during an oil change.

Mine is a 2006 built in early 2005 as well. I noticed my leak sometime in late 2010 and about 140000km or so. In my case, it never leaked down to the bottom of the transaxle, but it just may be that I caught it early. Wonder if it's an early production problem that was fixed in later models?

Still I'd encourage all to check this spot for the pink crusty residue, and from up top in case it hasn't leaked down, especially if you are still within warranty

I had the transaxle replaced due to corrosion around the freeze
plug which caused quite a pool of transmission fluid before it was discovered.
The annoying thing was that it had been in for service a month before and had brake pads replaced but the staff did not see that everything was soaked in oil already.

Anyway - that freeze plug leak was due to manufacturing error, they had done poor metal choices.
This was corrected on the later models, after August 2006 if I remember right.
Theres a TSB on it as well.

i Bought my 2007 rx400h couple months ago, imported from the US, and just bumped into this recall post. I registered my VIN with "Lexus Driver" portal https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...-lexus/home.do. and under safety recall link I get this message:
"2007 RX400H
Your vehicle does not require any outstanding safety recalls or service campaigns at this time. This inquiry covers all recalls or campaigns currently not completed for your specific vehicle identification number (VIN)."

Does this mean I'm not affected with the IPM issue? Toyota mentioned around 37K rx400h are affected, which is almost the total number of 2006 & 2007 production.

appreciate your feedback.

Yes, your VIN is not part of the recall.

Got mail today from Lexus Canada stating parts were in. Called dealer to make an appointment and was told they would inspect it first, then orderparts if required. I asked if they just replaced the circuit board or the whole inverter. I was told sometimes just the board, other times the whole inverter. Now this was just the guy that works the service counter not a technician, so take this with a grain of salt, those who are hoping for a new $7000 part.

I recieved the recall letter for IPM a few weeks ago and they was going to do the replacement when my car was in for 60k service.
But then they called and told me that the serialnumber of the Inverter did show mine was not one of those in need of replacement.

How come they didnt know that before they flaged my VIN and sent me the letter?

Because there specific part number and serial are not in the VIN. Toyota needs to inspect all the vehicles that couldve possibly had those specific part #s.
In this case all inverters w/ part G9200-48011 or G9200-48021 get the recall without need of verifying serial. ALL other part numbers require serial verification
