Default Wipers - Anyone notice this?

While driving my 400h this morning, I happened to touch the black plastic while adjusting the mirror. This is the little plastic box just above the inside mirror. The strangest thing happened - my wiper turned on. I thought, it might have been the auto sensing wipers (no rain at all). After that, every time, I touch that little black plastic, my wipers turn on. Is this normal (hopefully, not)? My wipers are in the AUTO mode. I have not tried to duplicate this is the OFF position.

Yes, mine does the same thing as well. The sensor for the rain sensing wipers is in that black box. Just be happy you didn't mess with the ejector seat sensor.

WOW, that is strange. I thought mine had a loose connection and was all set to take it to a dealer.
You are right, you never know what one can find that the Toyota engineers have hidden in their cars.

Yup, same here. However, I happened to touch the location again while adjusting the mirror and the thought popped up back in my head - what were the design engineers aiming for? A surprise for the owners!!!!

Same for me.
I thought those sensors was glued or something onto the windshield but it seems they are simply pressed against it causing it to be activated by a subtle touch to the cover.

A bit crappy imo.
