Can someone interpret the "consumption" screen for me?
Hey guys,
Nobody at the dealer could help me with this, and believe it or not, I couldn't find any answers on the internet either. My manual still has not arrived but I'm not sure it would be all that helpful.
I need some help understanding the Consumption screen as it relates to the hybrid. Here are my questions:
1. What are differences between the green bars and yellow bars?
2. Why are the bars all green after you start the car and it's been sitting parked for a while?
3. What are those little letters inside the bars? I think they are "L" and "E"
Also - does everybody here have a bit of a hesitation when you hit the gas pedal in the "power/hybrid" mode?
And what is your screen showing as MPG on long highway trips? I'm just curious.
Thanks so much in advance.

The difference between the two color bars is just to differentiate between two trips. The little e's are to show the amount of electricity that was captures during that minute of driving the car. You'll notice that after a long downhill you'll have collected a lot of them.
I find little to no hesitation with the gas.
My current lifetime average gas mileage is 25.4. That is about 60:40 city highway. On the highway around 80 I get around 30. When I use pulse and glide techniques and stay around 60-65 I get around 35.

I'm averaging about 26.5 at 80 mph, only according to the MPG that is displayed on the screen. I haven't yet tested it myself - I'm only going by what is shown.

That's about what I get as well. I get 30 mpg at 60 mph. lucasb7 is either reporting downhill numbers, or his 450h is equipped with wings and a propeller. This is my second 2007 GS450h, and my numbers are about the same as they were for the first one.

My numbers at 80 are primarily based on trips down or up highway 5 in the central valley which is very level. Typically to attain 30 mpg at 80, I use pulse a glide where in I let off the accelerator from 80 to around 77 then "pulse" back up to 80. This is a common method described on Prius Chat to get better mileage. 80 cruise control would get more in the range of 26-28 depending on wind and what i'm carrying. i don't know if we used different break in procedures or travel with different weights but these are the numbers recorded by the car. Who knows, perhaps the changes in front body work in 2008 made aerodynamic changes too?
The 60 mph gas mileage was attained in hilly terrain which I suppose may have helped the numbers by having the engine off at times, but the net elevation remained approximately the same.
As to my "lifetime average" number, I reset the gauge on the nav when I bought it and never reset it again....
