Default Extended Warranty???

I am buying the lease out on my 2006 RX400h next month the dealer has offered me an extended warranty for 24 months or 100,000 miles at $2,500 or 36 months or 100,000 miles for $3,??? I only have 55,000 miles and the hybrid warranty has a ways to go yet. Should I get the extra warranty or not. Never had any trouble on any of our many Toyota/Lexus in the family I am thinking this is a waste. Opinions please.

Unlike the original factory warranty, it's insurance, plain and simple. Some people like the feeling of protection at any cost. But at some point you have to realize that you as an individual and your own insurance company stand a very good chance of coming out ahead by backing yourself rather than paying an upfront fee (with tons of profit) to someone else who is operating as a business to make money.

You have to make your own decision, not ask someone else to do it for you. Personally I've had the same experience with the Lexus brand you have and feel like the car will keep performing well with recommended service. As for myself, I'd be inclined 'NOT' to buy it in your situation.

I agree with Jim. It's a risk to go bare, and I've owned cars where the extended warranty more than paid for itself. If we were talking BMW or especially MB, I'd get the warranty.
But Lexus -- I'm taking the chance.

Default Price seems a little high ...

be sure to shop at several Lexus dealers for what you want. You can buy the warranty from any Lexus dealer.

Another thing to consider is that there are several non-Lexus warranty companies that from friends in the business seem OK. Shop around, and like okc329 said there are wide differences in prices from Lexus dealer to Lexus dealer.

Price for the Lexus extended warranty is negotiable, like any other extended warranty.
Shop around for the best price.
Considering the extensive electronics, besides the Hybrid system, it could be to your advantage to buy the warranty, if you plan to keep the car for a while.
The choice is yours!
