Default Navigation DVD Question

I have been reading this forum for a couple months now since I purchased a used 2006 RX400h. It's primarily my wife's car, but I purchased it with the Nav system and the ML sound system upgrade for my enjoyment too.

Love the car but it does have it's quirks. Like so many others, I don't like a lot of the restrictions Lexus put on owners, like on the Nav, telephone and audio display.

We recently took a 2000 mile trip in the car. I was pleased with the 25+ MPG we got over the entire trip, primarily highway miles. I was not pleased with having to stop to make direction changes to the nav system to help us route our way. Before we left, I loaded many of the numbers we would likely call into the phone system. so, 1 touch calling via the bluetooth system worked very well.

I have been researching the threads by Sonartech and others about the DVD creation using the 5.1 and 6.1 DVDs. Since it is a 2006, I was very surprised to find out that my DVD was in fact a 4.2 version. The nav system is a Gen 4 version, also a bit disappointing, since it appears Gen 5 was the norm for most '06 or later builds. My build date was in late 05 so it appears it was an early '06 build.

Does anyone know whether I can build a new DVD with the 5.1 and 6.1 files that will work in my Gen 4 system or am I limited to buying the 5.1 upgrade?

Thanks in advance for replies and assistance.

Bob

FWIW, my '06 400h is a may 2006 build that was PDI'ed in mid June 06, and it came with the 5.1 build. I had no trouble creating a DVD-DL dvd backup using the Sonartech method (I did not have the latest DVD release). I was looking to purchase the 6.1 DVD but didn't see the inherit benefit right off the bat. NOW, I noticed that there is a newer DVD to be released. So, I might hold back I may not... if you have any ? you can always pm me.

Cheers,
