Also, S8 is at the end of its run, it looks like A6 and the nav. is not touch screen.

First off I was in the same camp where I was looking at the 750iL, S550, S8 , and LS460L. I test drove all of them, and here is my take. First off my weekend performance toy is a Yamaha R1 (I put less than 3000 mile on it a year) , so performance is skewed from my perspective. What I absolute hate about the "german vehicles" is the Navigation system, after driving a lexus with touch screen, the german navigation screens leave me wanting. Both the Mercedes and BMW mount the Nav screen so low in the console that I find that I have to move my entire head to glance at the screen, where as on the Lexus and Audi you can move your eyes... subtle details that seem to be lost on most reviewers and reports I've read.

Also I'm not that thrilled with the pop up screen on the Audi, given Audi's electronics problems ** I expect that popup screen to break sooner rather than later. Really when is the last time you bought a German DVD player. The German car companies lost the electronics battle quite some time ago.

Also I am quite surprised how much road noise the S8 has, heck an Acura RL is actually more quite on the highway.

It really depends on what you want but I think the Lexus is more desirable for the humdrum day to day driving..

Also isn't the S8 on the SWB platform? The LS 600h would be a more same-size comparison then.

Audi = nice looking car, except I think the grille is HIDEOUS!

Lexus = understated elegance, design is AWESOME

You are considering an Audi? IMO, Lexus, BMW. Merecedes are all better choices.

Also if there ever was an LS-F that would be a more direct comparison as well.

Nice pics, but HUGE. You need to download a little free utility called Infranview - download also all its plugins at the same page and install them.

After the install, double click your picture, press Ctrl-R and Resize the pics to 800x600 and then save them.

After that, repost them here.

I don't like the Chrysler 300 front end look.

S550 is just a rip off of the 750. 750 is due for a redesign. I like the old e65 better. Plus brother in law has one, so no need for another 7.

The other worthy alternative is the S8, but not too thrilled about the service dealers around here
I never saw that tacky v10 emblems

Only if the S8 has the LS interior. If I had money to burn, that's what I would do
Or I can trade my old S for an 05/06 S65

The S8 was hands down my first choice. I drove the S8 and LS460 within 30 minutes of one another. The drive of the S8 is just as luxurious as the LS, but much better in terms of handling and feel. The body roll in the S8 is almost non-existent and not nearly as "floaty" as the Lexus. The car is much more "dialed in". I also feel the Audi 8 interior is the best looking of all the full size lux cars.

Straight line in the S8 was disappointing for the V10. It needs another 50HP. The exclusivity of the S8 is also superior. While the 600 is limited, it isn't visually distinct enough from the 460 IMO. The S8 also had the solar roof option which was a great feature for me here in South Florida. I do prefer the electronics (Nav and Bluetooth specifically) of the Lexus over any other car I have owned previously. Having had BMW's and Benz's, the touch screen is so much better for inputting data. I would have never thought this until living with it for a while. Now I am sold on the touch screen. If only Lexus would open up the system while moving......

I went with the 460 strictly for financial reasons (and the fact that my daily commute is a mile each way). I needed to lease for write off purposes and the S8 would have made the payment on my recently departed Gallardo seem cheap by comparison. The resale/residual is horrific on the Audi. I was able to acquire the S8 at invoice and it was still a terrible lease deal. That sealed the deal for me on the LS. After having the LS for almost 2 months, I am happy with the decision with the exception of handilng even with the touring pkg. I still love the S8, but for me it wasn't worth it.

Where is Lexus' answer to the S8 and AMG????

IS-F is the first It will take time, though I would not hold my breath for a LS-F

If they made an LS-F I suppose it would be based on the LS 460? Not the LWB?
