Very different cars in some regards, but very similar in others (including price, if rumors about the h can be believed). I'm curious what thoughts folks here have regarding the two?

 

Strike one against Audi: I submitted a request for a quote from their web site. I got a pretty quick reply from the local dealer with a price and an invitation to come in for a test drive. But then when I tried to schedule it, they wrote back and, very tersely, told me that all S8's had been sold before they hit the lot so they didn't have any to drive. I had also said I wanted to listen to a Bang & Olufsen sound system and that hearing it in an A8 would suffice. They told me that was a special order item so they wouldn't have any available. Let's just say I was underwhelmed by their attitude and apparent lack of desire to sell a $110K+ car.

 

If the S8 is a Lexus, I would take it over the LS600hL
Seriously, the S8 is the most beautiful car in it's class inside and out.

I would still take a Lexus LS460L over an Audi A8L though.

 

If you want speed get the s8 if you want lux get the lexus...

The S8 is a beautiful car. I did not go that route due to the horrible resale. Audi's tank in value as much as Maserati.

Obviously, the Audi will not be as reliable as well, but they do hold up well.
If resale is not too important, the Audi is a strong choice.

 

Resale is not too important (I'll keep this car for a long time), but customer service is. I like that Lexus has always treated me well, respectfully, and cheerfully. My first "touch" with Audi was a very negative one, that they may not in fact recover from.

 

I agree, aesthetically speaking, the S8 is a much nicer car than the LS460.

 

I have looked at S8 before I got this car. And there is no comparison. However, if you ONLY care about performance/handling - then it could be a wash. But everything else - there is no comparison.

 

Does anyone have a picture of the S8 to share? I am curious to see how it looks.

 

One thing to keep in mind is that the S8 is based on the short wheel based A8, while the LS600h is going to be the long-wheel base.

 

The S8 sounds sweet and is a very nice car but I would choose the LS over it any day.

 

The S8 looks gorgeous but I don't seem to be able to see it all on one page. Image size seems too big. Do I need to do any adjustment to fit the pictures in one page?

very tough choice, i would go with the ls600hl due to personal preference, but i can say it's very easy to swing otherwise
