Has anyone used synthetic oil in their RXh? I know it works better on regular cars, but have read mixed comments in a hybrid. Some say it works better in the Honda's, but couldn't find anything about the Lexus. A friend mentioned that he heard that synthetic wasn't recommended in hybrids.
Anyone have experience or 1st hand knowledge of synthetic oil in hybrids?

I have been using mobile one since the first oil change, I figured with all the stopping and starting, it wouldn't hurt.
I now have 15k miles and 11 months and no problems, nor would I expect any.
I still do normal interval oil changes, not extended.

I can't say with the RXh, but my uncle and I were at WalMart over the weekend and some Toyota representatives were in the parking lot of the Costco next door and were testing 2 Priuses (not yet down here). I asked them some questions and when it came to oil, it was Mobil 1 they were using.
Ever since I have ownership of my RX300, Mobil 1 has gone in, but you may want to take a good look at Amsoil (which I cannot get my hands on down here).

from the manual:
Quote:
Engine oil selection
“Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” is used in your Lexus vehicle. Use
Lexus approved “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” or equivalent to
satisfy the following grade and viscosity.
Oil grade: API grade SL “Energy-Conserving” or ILSAC
multigrade engine oil.
Recommended viscosity: SAE 5W-30
Anything that meets that is OK, including synthetics or blends.Engine oil selection

i have no trouble with synthetic oil per se, i use a synthetic blend in all my vehicles, and i can point to tangible benefits, less oil consumption in older engines, better lubrication and engine life. I just feel that some people go way too long with the synthetic in the engine without a filter that can go the distance, and in addition with less frequent oil changes no one is checking the other vital fluids and paying attention to whats up under the hood. more importantly while toytoa doesnt discourage synthetic oil it is my understanding that the scheduled maintenance intervals are not waived for warranty service just because you have a longer life oil under the hood. personally i use a good quality blend and filter and change it more frequently. that system has served me very well over a long period.
Thanks for the replies. I think I'll have my service station use Mobil 1, 5W30 at my first oil change when it comes up.

My dealer here in the UK put in Mobil 1 at the first oil change as a matter of routine,so I guess it must meet with the approval of Toyota UK.
I stick to scheduled oil change intervals, and so far I'm 3,000 miles from my next oil change.
Not needed to top up the oil at all yet.
