Just had my NX 450H+ (PHEV) serviced and had dealer test the 12V battery due to the frequent low charge rate. They had to first charge it to perform a parasitic draw test which it passed. I also asked if Lexus sells an alternative battery - they don't. I, like many drivers on this forum, am retired and primarily take short trips and don't drive other days at all. As a result, I have to charge my 12V battery every 10 days or so. I've added a battery monitor and the Ionic Emergency Start unit (yes, I removed both before my servicing).
My question: Would replacing my OEM battery at some point with a high quality AGM LIKELY reduce my need to recharge as much? Consumer Reports rates this Duralast AGM tops in its size class plus this model offers a 5 year warranty? They state it fits my NX but I'll verify before buying of course.
Yes AGM tolerates partial state of charge better, and accepts charge faster, which would reduce your need to recharge. You may also fit a bit longer one H6. Maybe even H7 (I didn't try it).
BTW there are cheaper "sticker engineered" AGM batteries from Clarios on the market with the same 4 year replacement warranty.
You may question why do you need to charge it every 10 days at all. Is there some drain, or the battery was already tired when the need appeared. Regular OEM battery in good shape should be sufficient to last few days and recharge quickly once you turn the car on.
Don't miss the vent tube when installing it, just in case. Also make sure your wall charger treats AGM well, wall chargers without specific AGM support can overcharge at too high voltage and dry it out.
