RX500h possible transmission issue
Right, I have the 2025 RX500H as of the beginning of this month, but have been following this thread ever since putting a deposit and waiting specifically for this 2025 model year. Too early to tell, but I have been driving it fairly easy, and local roads are basically at sea-level. Never 'floored' it either, haven't had a need to with it's power in local driving. Roughly 300 miles in, and fingers crossed on no future issues. Will keep thread posted though if anything pops up.
Concerning incident occurred today while stopped: all of a sudden car starts violently jerking back and forth. I was on the brakes the whole time and issue stopped as soon as P was selected. Thinking it’s some sort of transmission software issue as the engine was off during this event. Has anyone else ran into anything similar?
Oh man sorry to hear about this, I would be too, hopefully something comes in sooner.

After reading this thread, I'll pay more attention but it seems like there's not one single way to 100% trigger it. It seems like everyone has slightly different way it triggers?
Here's what I'm thinking of doing to test it.
In all modes (eco, sport, normal)
- Downhill breaking
- Hard breaking
- Slow breaking
- Break and look towards the passenger seat? 🤷♂️
Do you guys have anything else you want me to add to test it?
2025 owner here too. I just saw this thread, since it was in the sub forum of the 5th Gen. I'm just below 500 miles and I haven't felt any jerky-ness but also haven't paid attention. Additionally, I'm coming from a 2020 GX 460, which is a body-on-frame and inherently a rougher ride, so maybe I'm not paying more attention.

My dealer tech described the transmission problem I have as "a parking lot speed issue". True enough, the car sort of "pulses" in very low speeds that are sometimes subtle, sometimes outright jerky. At first I thought it was an auto braking, fuel supply or ABS sort of issue. Occasionally, it also doesnt shift automatically between gears (ie revs high when it should shift down) as smoothly as I would expect. Im still driving mine while I wait for my parts/new car (whichever comes first!) I put a deposit on a '25 TX. I should maybe press for a loaner or something, but Im waiting to see. Loaner wasnt offered.
RRL
This only seems to occur in Normal or Sport modes and when either starting off from stationary or coming to a stop.
Does anyone else have this? It almost feels as if the car is using the cameras/sensors to preemptively force brake, but almost like an ABS pump rapidly firing. The whole car judders.

I'm glad they are accepting that there really is an issue. I took mine into my local Lexus Service Center and was advised that they would check it out on my next scheduled repair (which would have been a week later.) I decided on the spot, after reading numerous personal accounts describing the same issue, to trade it back in on a 2024 TX 500h f Sport. So far, it was the right decision. Here was a major shocker for me, I took my new TX back in for a small door ding repair and spoke with my regular service representative. I asked him if they were able to repair the car I had just traded back in, and he told me that they don't do anything to the cars after they are traded in, and it would be up to the next buyer to experience the issue, and then bring in back in for service and repair. Shocking!!
Hi guys, I have 2023 RX500h with 22k km already (I know). The issue I'm about to describe has happened about 6-7 times now, last time was today. It's hard to describe so please bear with me.
While driving, as you roll to a stop say at a stop signs the car starts jerking back and forth. It's almost disturbing. The only way I can describe it is that it feels like it's "stuck" trying to switch between gas and electric motor. Car doesn't move forward and the only way to disengage this situation is to put the car in park.
The jerks back and forth are so severe and heavy that it almost feels like it's gonna break the gearbox...
After the first 3 times I took it to the dealer and of course they couldn't replicate the issue.
Has anyone experienced this? Or knows what I'm referring to?
Thanks 🙏

Fellow RX500h owners - there is FINALLY a service bulletin related to this issue!

It seems it has to do with a high state of charge with the hybrid battery, which corresponds with my experiences. Every time it has happened (5 times now) has been at the bottom of the same long hill, with the battery full from regen. Looks like it's just a hybrid computer programming fix. Fingers crossed that this solves the problem!

As usual, the TSB requires confirmation that the problem exists before they apply it.
I wonder how the dealers will verify that they need to update the software? I wish they would JUST DO IT if a customer complains!

My issue also occurred 3x at the bottom of a hill after driving down it.
Dealership believed me, eevn though it didnt happen all the time, and no way I could repeat it. The work order said something like "VIN falls into specified range and date of production" or something like that (I should post it) so it was some problem they knew about. Anyhow, the day I brought the car in for its warranty replacement, I just upgraded to a new TX 500h. I didnt trust the Rx 500h any longer. I dont buy a new car to have the tranny go out in 1.5 years.

The dealer did the TSB fixes for me today. They actually applied two separate updates...one for the jolting when stopped and the other to fix jolting/hesitation when starting from a stop (I didn't even know there was a second fix available). I immediately noticed that the car was favoring EV mode more than before at slower speeds (I almost always drive in Normal mode), so I think the update prioritizes the battery over the engine when the charge is high. Maybe the jolting issue was because the car was flip flopping between gas and electric and couldn't decide. Time will tell if this solves the problem, but so far I haven't noticed anything negative at all. Acceleration is still good and maybe I'll get even better gas mileage now.
