2024 RX 450h+ Initial Impressions
After about 3 weeks and 300 miles, my EV miles are slowly creeping up from 33 to 36 today after charging. Was hoping it would be faster to up to 40, but I am just not driving enough.

I've had my RX450h+ for four weeks now (530 miles) and still can't seem to wipe the smile off of my face. I am charging with the factory Toyota/Lexus supplied charger using my 240v dryer outlet, since we have a gas dryer. It charges in roughly half of the time as it would at 120v. I kinda doubt that I will ever need a level 2 charger, as this appears to be more than adequate. Mine shows 34 miles available after a full charge. Mileage on the cluster is now at about 36.6 and has crept up every week from around 28.8. Both my wife and I are so impressed with this car that we have put a deposit down on a new NX450h+ Luxury for her. We just have to wait for them to find one in either of the two colors that we specified, along with the palomino interior. Her 2017 Acura RDX Advance will go to our offspring.
Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences. I did an initial post with pics in a different sub (below) yesterday but will share some excerpts and updated thoughts below https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...l#post11599657
I've only had a few hours with the vehicle but love many aspects of it so far. The ride quality is everything you'd expect from a Lexus and the extra juice is nice given it's a heavy vehicle. I test drove a RAV 4 Prime and it was definitely lighter/quicker, but the wind noise was quite pronounced, so I decided to pass and go with the RX instead. Other cool things: Iridium paint is da bomb, heads-up display is cool, nice large screen and wireless charging. However, I'm going to be nitpicky and mention a few minor things that annoyed me:
Battery/EV:
- App says that charging will stop at 95%, giving me only 30 miles. Dealership also said 30 miles was about right. How are folks getting 34 miles?
- Perhaps it's because I live in a hilly area, but battery drained pretty quickly even with rather conservative driving

- Cheap looking plastic on some parts of the dash, screen, shades/glove compartment
- Needing to change drive modes (eco/sport) through the screen vs. a ****/button. For some reason, mode reverts back to "normal" every time even if I ended the drive on sport or eco. Is this the way it works?
- Overly complicated shifter; just bring back the regular P, R, N, D shifting already
- Rear view mirror was narrower than my wife's Highlander Hybrid (I think)

Yo can customise the touch buttons on the steering wheel to change the drive mode. (by the way also the temperature)
Sorry for asking this naive question on HP, but it's been bugging me as I've gotten a few different answers.
Will our 450h+s always have 302 HP, even when the battery is "drained" (ie 1 or 2 bars left on the guage/the minimum ~20% charge that's always there)? Or does HP go down to 246 when it's in HV mode after the battery is drained (the equivalent of a 350h)?
I've done some Google searches but can't get a definitive answer. If we only get the higher HP while the battery is charged, that's a pretty expensive perk to have since we only get 30+ EV miles on it.
Also, does anyone know how to keep the vehicle on auto EV/HV mode? Mine defaults to EV I'd like auto to be the default.
Thanks in advance for guidance.

I suppose, under some extreme conditions, one could deplete the reserve to the point where the hybrid system reduced power.
Under any reasonable scenario though, the hybrid system will dip into the battery reserve for full power, then charge the battery back-up to some minimum level once full power is no longer required.
What I have observed, is that the vehicle switches to HV mode at about 13% state of charge(using Dr Prius app) and then immediately starts recharging the battery up to around 14% and then seems to hold it in a 13-15% range, with regen bumping the charge level up and acceleration bumping it down. 13% of 18.1kwh is 2.35 kwh. I believe the 350h battery is 1.6kwh for comparison. I imagine that there is another level below which the hybrid system will not let the battery fall, because the engine won't start with a truly dead hybrid battery. I believe that is the level where full power would not be available, but the engine would be working to charge the battery back up from there.

Does anyone know how long it takes to charge the 2024 450h+ using the included level 1 charger plugged into a 120 Volt outlet? From fully discharged to full charge I am guessing it is 12 hours or more. Just curious. We will be taking delivery of this model in the next 30 days. Have not seen that posted anywhere. I have a level 2 ChargePoint on order that will be connected to use 40 amps of a 50 amp circuit.
So once we have that I will only use the level 1 charger when away from home of when charging from our driveway.

WellsB is correct however, you can cut the charging time almost in half by plugging the Lexus supplied 120v charger into 240v. I opted to do this, rather than buying a Level 2 charger, which cuts charging time even more. My RX450h+ charges up in around 4.5 to 6.5 hours. The factory supplied charger is the same worldwide, except for the male plug on the cord. It is rated for 240v and in North America, a short adapter can be purchased on Amazon, or fabricated from parts available at Home Depot or Amazon. After charging my 450h+, I always unplug the adapter to insure that no one can plug a 120v appliance into 240v. I use a 30 Amp dryer outlet for mine but, when my wife's new NX450h+ arrives, I will be plugging her's into a 50 Amp outlet that I installed on the opposite side of the garage. At some point, I may opt for a Level 2 charger but, so far, so good using this method.

Sales reps, in general, tend to know very little about the vehicles that they are selling. They are selling a lot of different models and many of them have different features and juggling all of those things is a bit much. I have been told things by sales people that are often completely wrong. I do as much research before I go to any franchise dealer so that I know exactly what I want before I pull the trigger.
