Default 2020 RX 450H Pre purchase Questions

My local Chevrolet Dealer has a 2020 RX 450h on their lot. It seems well equipped with Navigation, Heated/Cooled Memory Seats, Heated Steering Wheel with wood trim, and host of other features like 20 inch Michelin Primacy Tour Tyres/Alloy wheels. There is 38,000 miles on the odometer and the dealership wants $42,000 USD on the sticker. I am not very familiar with any Lexus' SUVs let alone the RX Series thus I have a few questions. Is this vehicle a good deal or will be paying too much? The Chevrolet Salesman was very ignorant, almost downright unhelpful concerning its features, but is the Navigation system onboard a cloud bases system like Toyota vehicles? Would this vehicle have Android Auto? I have read the Fuel economy Stickers on Fueleconomy.gov, but what would the real word fuel economy numbers in mixed city/highway driving be? Will it get less than 30 MPG? Finally, the vehicle on has one key FOB, generally what is the replacement cost for a new Key FOB? Also, is the RX maneuverable in tight suburban parking lots or is the NX a better choice?

I can address a few of these questions, as it sounds like this may be very similarly equipped to mine:

As to fuel economy, my best tank in warm (but not hot) weather was just over 36 MPG, but more typically I get 31 or 32. A recent mountain highway road-trip with speeds ranging 55/65 MPH, except for numerous small towns, tight curves and numerous steep grades netted me just over 31 MPG. My worse tank was during cold winter months with 100% city/urban driving and was a bit over 28.

This vehicle will have Android Auto. I believe this was the first model year to have it.

Nav for this vehicle does use a cloud based system like Toyota. It is probably the exact same system.

You also asked about maneuverability in tight spaces. My last crossover was an NX and I had an RX before that so I have experience with both. I would say the NX is a little better but not by a huge amount. The surround/panoramic monitors on our RX really help as you get better visibility around the vehicle, but honestly the RX is only about an inch wider and something like 10 inches longer so the difference isn’t huge. You may want to check if the RX you are looking at has this feature by putting it reverse to see if it shows the 360 degree view, or look for the little cameras on the bottom of the mirrors.

As to the price, there are others here that have better knowledge of realistic prices than me, but for reference, it sounds like your vehicle would have likely been priced between 54 an 58K new, unless it’s a luxury model with triple beam headlights and leather seats (in which case I would think it would have been about 6K more).

I hope that helps. Good luck with your car search.

@850R I will answer a couple of your questions.
There are 3 model options. Base, Premium and Luxury.
To tell if it is a top model, look to see if the front seats have a thigh extender and rear windows have a manual shade to cover the window, ff it does not, it is either a base or premium model.
It the navigation is a 12" something screen, it is the better navigation system.
The cloud based navigation is an optional add-on that you pay for after the 3 years trial expires. The subscription costs $80 a year and updates the road map and looks for the best route. You never have to buy an updated map. It you do not pay for it, it will operate just as any other navigation systems does. I am happy with the performance in my 2020 RX450h.
MPG - My calculated MPG since new is 30.2. It is 30 to 32 in the summer and around 29 in the winter. I drive conservatively and glide to red lights and stop signs but never obstruct traffic. My driving over the last 3 years has been about 95% around town and 5% highway.
If it has the larger navigation screen it will have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. I am not sure about the smaller 8" or so screen.
I am very happy with my RX and plan to keep it for a long time.
Check KBB and other online sites for pricing in your area. But try to find out the options it has.
You may be able to get that info using the VIN on the Lexus Drivers website.

I believe "navigation" only comes with the larger screen.

My wife has a 2020 RX350 and I have a 2021 RX450h. Both are the "base" model. Since MY 2020, all RXs have a touchscreen and come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. We use Waze for navigation via CarPlay in both our RXs. Perfectly satisfactory.

As for your expected MPG, much will depend on your driving style. If you drive conservatively (both on city surface streets and on highways) you should be able to easily get MPGs in the 30s assuming moderate temperatures. I have found that I get optimal highway MPG when driving at 55-60 MPH (the posted speed limit on most highways I drive). If you drive at more than 70 MPH, your mileage will drop off significantly. Your mileage will be lower in cold weather and hot weather. I experience about a 3 MPG drop during the winter even when minimizing short trips. For both city driving and highway driving, I have found that my MPG increases significantly after about 5-10 miles of driving (depending on the outside temperature). By that distance, the ICE is up to operating temperature and the traction battery is fully-charged. Short trips are killers for MPG.

I just wanted to let everybody know, we couldn't come to a an agreement on the RX. The Chevrolet Dealer was very unhelpful and tried to keep pushing us into a Chevrolet Tahoe, instead of the RX. The salesman also kept bringing up the horrors of battery replacement costs and such. Thus we walked away and decided to pause the hunt for a little while. Also, the increase in interest rates means we need a higher down payment for a $40,000 USD vehicle, so the original vehicle we looked at was out of our price range. Anyways, armed with a higher down payment we are back in th4e hunt for an RX.

My wife, who will be the primary driver of the RX, has a few more questions. She definitely wants a vehicle with a Heads Up Display, what trim levels were equipped with the HUD? Are the F-Sport Trim vehicles equipped with deferent suspension? Were the F-Sport vehicles equipped with a different Instrument Cluster as compared to the Base or Luxury Trims?

HUD is an additional option that is only available for factory installation on all trim levels. F-Sport is a harsher/firmer ride and the seats have larger bolsters on the sides, making it more difficult to get in and out of the vehicle. F-Sport has a different instrument display. I had a 2020 RX450h f-sport for two years and when I ordered the 2022 RX450h. I ordered the 2022 Premium RX450h without the panoramic sun roof, as the pano roof option continues to cause problems.

Even though HUD could have been technically ordered as a separate option, I don't think you could find many non-luxury trim models that will have it. So if HUD is a must have, you should look for the Luxury trim and that's where you would most likely find it. Luxury trim would have semi-aniline leather seats with knee cushion extender and I think all Luxury trims come with different style 20" wheels compared to premium trim 20". F-Sport comes with different (firmer) suspension and I believe it does have a different instrument cluster (LFA inspired). Some people complain about F-Sport seats being less comfortable than regular RX. Can't confirm or disprove this, just be aware of it. We have a 2022 RX450h Luxury trim and we have HUD, which I personally like very much and the seats in our car are super comfortable on long trips. Our fuel economy varies between 26mpg and 29mpg depending on temperature and driving style, but most of our driving is highway, so I'm OK with it. Hope you find one that suits your needs! Oh and don't be scared about the battery replacement. Lexus warranties it for 10 years / 150k miles on all 2020+ vehicles. Our family member had a 2007 Highlander Hybrid that was totaled in an accident just last month and it still had the original hybrid battery in it.
