Dashcams in "Sentry" mode and battery drain
Has anyone installed a dashcam in their HS or similar hybrid? In 2019 I got a VIOFO A129 with the front and rear cameras and the 12v kit to do sentry. I installed it RIGHT before the pandemic hit, and my car sat, with sentry mode enabled as I worked from home, and the battery died. It was the OEM battery from 2010, so I chalked it up to me giving it the killing blow on an already weak battery. Since getting a new one, I opted to not plug in the dashcam until I knew what to expect. I've been putting it off since I haven't really sought out any answers til now.
It's my impression that 12v batteries in hybrids are a bit wonky with dashcams that remain partially-on after the car is off. Basically since there's always a steady drain on the battery in hybrids a bit heavier than a traditional ICE, they're more prone to dying.
Has anyone installed one of these and confidently left sentry mode on without killing their battery? How long between drives have you gone? What else can you tell me about your experience?
