Default HS250H brake job?

Any special considerations when changing the brakes on a HS250? I've read a little bit that says you need a special tool - I'm a DIY person, but should I just take this into a shop to get done?

Thanks

Do you actually need brakes and if so, how many miles are on your car?

You have to be careful due to the regenerative brakes issues.. I suggest you read up at the Priuschat forum or Toyota nation forum.

I think changing the pads is straightforward, but do not bleed the brakes yourself.

He is right, the brake job is like any other....... except bleeding it. That you might want to leave to the dealer. It gets pretty involved.

But because you asked, here are the instructions from the manual. It's a lot of extra information on rebuilding the caliper, just read over it and you'll find the instructions for replacing the pad, front and rear.

If you are just change pads and rotors, the procedure is the same as non-hybrid ones. I usually unplug the negative terminal just in case. I went to Toyota dealer to replace the brake fluids for $120. The brake pads should last up to 100k miles since 80% of brake force are from the engine.

Thanks guys. The car has 90k on it, pads are near the wear indicators. I'll make sure to D/C the battery, just replace the pads & rotors, push the pistons in & NOT bleed the brakes. Thanks!
