Scion tC weight 3036 - 3091 pounds
Prius V weight 3274 pounds
HS250h weight 3682 - 3770 pounds

Knowing the weight difference makes me reconsider whether I would put those struts, even the struts alone, on my HS. Maybe if they make a stiffer sport strut that may work with the extra weight.
That's a very good point, and ultimately, was my only concern coming out of this. It's very hard to find specs on any particular OEM springs and shocks, but many of the aftermarkets for the tC and the hs250h fall in line with similar ranges. Obviously I'm not looking to lower/raise my vehicle, but even with a slightly reduced GVWR, I'm within range via typical use of my car (add 72lbs to the curb weight for a full tank of gas, and I'm at 3862, which still allows me to haul myself and a few passengers, groceries, odds-and-ends fairly safely).

As for the ride - the best I can say is that it's dramatically improved, and it's refreshing. Unfortunately, ALL of the roads I travel on regularly have been completely resurfaced, so it's as if I'm driving everywhere on smooth asphalt - but prior to the replacement, smooth asphalt still had problems (as is typical for a leaky shock). I'm 3 weeks on the new springs and I don't get any sense that I'm riding low, or riding with diminished handling.

Overall - my guess is that I'm not getting another 11 years out of these shocks like the proper OEMs. I'll be happy with 5.

It might be worth looking into the RAV4 (2006-2011). It uses an identical front steering knuckle, but the upper strut mount may vary. The more recent models in those years were heavier cars, so that assembly might work in an HS as-is, but someone would have to try it to verify.

The RAV4 struts are longer and not suitable for the HS:

RAV4 Compressed length 15.35 inches, extended length 21.25 inches

SciontC Compressed length 13.44 inches, extended length 19.37 inches.

I could not find specs for OEM.

The upper mounting plate is the same exact part number (all ten digits, not the first five), and the HS/TC/Prius V all have the same steering knuckle part (ten digits), as well as stabilizer links (ten digits).

It's a bit more labor to swap out the springs and all, and the TC coilovers are cheaper than the unassembled Lexus Shocks anyway. I don't like to reuse springs because they do wear out, and depending on how long you've been driving on a bad shock and misaligned car, you're going to have unbalanced springs.

In this case, it's cheaper AND easier, both in labor and parts, to simply get the TC fully assembled. It works beautifully with the HS. I've been driving more than 2 weeks on mine and the car drives as if it was new. Very refreshing.
so are we talking about 2011 Scion TC coilovers

My local Toyota Dealer's Parts Counter told me that Lexus sells the entire HS250h strut assembly including the spring for just under $500 USD. They wouldn't sell the part to me due to Lexus' agreement with Toyota Dealers, but if I were to have the service department install it for me, both sides would be $1200 parts and labour plus tax. Pricey but an option if you foresee keeping your car for another 10 years.

For folks who need front struts for their HS250h, Lexus now sells a complete strut assembly including the spring, shock strut and accessories already assembled. The assembly bolts into the car using the three upper bolts and two lower knuckle bolts. My dealer keeps several sets of both sides in stock at all times. Part Numbers as follows: 48510-79075 RH Front, 48520-79075 LH Front. The parts in this assembly supersede all previous part numbers and are effective with every model of HS250h. Also, some touring package vehicles had a slightly different front spring which was stiffer than most vehicles, this assembly has the more common medium stiffness spring that was found on vehicles with 17 and 18 inch wheels. At my dealer, each strut is about $250 USD per assembly, Lexus OE Parts sells them for $165 USD.

thanks for the info! What website did you order from and the arrive complete? I’ve looked at a few of the different parts site I buy from and some show it as a strut only, not a complete assembly. I want to make sure and get it all together, hate using spring compressors lol.

FYI on the Prius V/tC KYB quick struts; quite noisy for me some odd reason at low speeds (backing out of driveway or parking). Assuming this is due to the extra weight being put on the mount. They feel like stock, but have definitely noticed they can become very rough depending on the road. I personally would skip this and go straight back to OEM m (which is what I’m doing).

I got my struts from Lexus OE Parts. Here is the link for RH Strut: Complete RH Strut LH Strut Complete RH Strut If you scroll down to the picture at the left bottom, you will see the strut PN are full assemblies. Shipping for me was a couple of days. As for KYB Struts, several years ago I put in a set into my recently departed Volvo. While they are good struts, they were much stiffer than the Factory Sachs Struts that vehicle was orginally equipped with. Also, KYB struts do have a 'break in' period. I did notice that on my Volvo. Many people on Volvo forums suggest taking a vehicle repaired with new struts on a rutted road to break them in. On my Volvo it made the ride more conforming to road imperfections and the ride less brittle.

just to be clear, when you say complete assembly, are you talking about a quick strut but with OEM parts? The part number you are providing is just the strut itself with no new spring mount, spring, or hardware. The picture shown just shows the strut itself, nothing else included. The mount, spring, hardware, etc are all sold separately. When I think of complete assembly, this is my thought

The part numbers I gave you are the complete strut like the one you have pictured above. The strut assembly contains all OEM Parts you have pictured pre-assembled.

I noticed on the link the description and pictures both say "strut assembly" - I did an independent search of the model number and it appears consistent. This might just be the fully-assembled assembly. https://www.lexuspartsnow.com/parts/...510-79075.html

I confirmed with lexuspartsnow that this is just the strut, not the full assembly. The image is misleading, sadly.

Yep I’ve asked a few of the lexus parts sites and all have said the same. Strut only, nothing else.
