Just got back from out of town and my battery is dead! Is it possible to recharge or jump it off? Where is the battery? Or do i need a new battery? I do have an extended warranty to on it and will see if this will be covered.

 

Battery is in the trunk. Passenger side, behind that panel. It's kind of hard on your back to get to.

Jumper points are under the hood. The positive hookup is under a little red removable cover in the fuse box. The negitive is a post outside the fuse box, or any good connection like a motor mount.

The battery is a gel type. I'd try charging it before replacing it. Get out the credit card if you decide to replace it.

 

Were the lights on the dashboard flashing everywhere when you tried to start it up? Or everything was dead?

Buy a portable charger and try to charge it overnight. I recommend a 10A, 6A, 2A charger. Don't try to jump start it with another vehicle. I learned my lesson the hard way when my battery died. I jumped start it with my Acura MDX and it shorted, blew up a few fuses. Hybrid battery is sensitive.

Open the hood, open the fuse box, there is a black square cover for Positive terminal. Plug in your Positive cable from the charger to it, negative to ground block. Charge the battery with 6A or 10A settings.

 

I just got back off 11 days of being gone on vacation and again had no power. Had to take my chances and jumped and it started. Are the hybrid batteries expensive?

 

You mean the main traction battery? If so, YES !!

But now days you can replace the individual cells and only the ones that are dead. That is if you do it yourself. The dealer will replace the whole assembly.

The other 12 volt battery is not that bad cost wise, and I don't really see a need to have a gel battery like the original. I need to do more research on that and why a special gel type battery is needed instead of a normal lead acid battery like from Sears.

 

Because the battery is placed in the trunk behind rear passenger seats and acid will spill. The battery has an air vent to the rear door to prevent hydro fume. Safety liability. I will stick with OEM battery.

 

So just charging the 12v battery via the connection points and leave over night?

 

Charge it until the battery charger indicates it is charged. If it will even charge. It may be too far gone. If you have the original 12 volt battery, it is certainly in need of replacement after all of this time.
