Default Windshield Crack

NEXT UPDATE:
The Lexus dealer doesn’t do window glass. So I called the company they referred me to and learned that there are over 500 of our windshields on backorder and they won’t be able to get one in for quite some time. There’s not even a delivery estimate. This morning when I turned the front windshield defroster on, the crack then shot up about another 8 to 10 inches. So if this isn’t a Lexus problem, how are there so many 2024 brand new Lexus GX 550 needing windshields?

UPDATE: I was just googling to find out what the cost would be for a replacement windshield and in another thread on a different site, someone posted the exact same issue on their GX. A several inch crack right in the middle straight up.

When I hopped in my GX this morning I have a crack right in the very center of my windshield, that runs from the very bottom (below the black area and wiper) and up about four or five inches. I do not see any impact mark or pit indicating that it got hit by something. It’s perfectly straight too. It might be nothing, but it just seems weird. Thoughts?

You might have had an impact at the base of the windshield. It doesn't matter now. It will only grow everyday. Do you have a glass as part of your insurance coverage? It might be a good time to get one, otherwise its a costly repair.

I have coverage as part of my comprehensive. But strangely enough, I was googling to get an idea of how much the new windshield will be, and on two different forums, two different people posted about the exact same thing happening to their GX. They got in and saw a straight crack, right in the center, no visible impact. And the way the windshield wiper sits, something would’ve had to come up over the windshield wiper and back down to actually impact the base of the window. It’s just funky. $1k deductible. Poop.

That's exactly where my FIRST one was. No evidence of impact.

Now that I’ve learned that there are so many of our windshields on backorder, I’m not surprised by the number of people that have reached out saying they had the exact same crack happen. Lexus needs to address this.

So you're not in a state that is "no fault" (with full coverage) that will replace the windshield free of charge, no deductible?

Someone else had mentioned that and it looks like there are only three states that fall in that category. I’m in New Hampshire.
