Hi All.
I'm not new to Lexus but I am a new wait lister for a '24 GX550 Overtrail. My concern is the height of the vehicle and will it fit into my garage. The spec sheet says 76.2 inches high, and I figure that doesn't include the factory roof rails that may add another 2.5/3 inches. My garage opening is 81 inches. So, I am looking at maybe two inches of clearance. That's a pretty slim clearance but hopefully doable. My 2-car garage is pretty standard size for the area I live in.
I would appreciate any opinions, especially from those that are able to get yours into a garage.
Can you ask the dealer to take one home to try. Even if it’s a back and forth trip, it might save you a lot of headache after if you want the car to be garaged. 3” of clearance on rough calculation is too much of a risk for me to purchase a car without trying it first.
Thanks for responding. I'm going to try to get an overtrail to test my garage height which I agree is the right thing to do. There is no way I will buy one without testing it. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same dilemma.
If it doesn't fit, I'll just have to look for something else. I'm currently driving a 2019 4Runner Off Road Premium and was looking for something more upscale. The 4Runner fits the garage with no problem.
Tape measure, just measure it. Then measure the vehicle
I measured the garage opening but I haven't been back to the dealer to measure the vehicle.
Two things have happened since I first posted, my garage door opener went out and I had it replaced. The guy that installed it was able to adjust the travel to give me 82" clearance. Also, my dealer agreed to send out someone with an overtrail edition to see if it will fit in the garage. It will be sometime next week. I am optimistic.
Sounds like a plan. Take pictures of the actual space between the lowest point of your garage and the GX. You will help a lot of new owners with 82” or less garage height openings.

Well, the sales rep brought out an Overtrail model to test the garage height and it fit easily. There was a good 3 inches plus room over the top of the roof rails. The garage entrance is 82 inches.
My wife took some pics which may or may not be helpful. She is short and shoulld have been on a foot stool but, oh well.
Did you buy the GX Overtrail? I'm interested too as the listed height is only for a specific trim, not all 6 ...
If so, have the ability to measure with a step stool / ladder and take a pic for perspective?
I was looking at the GX Overtrail and Land Cruiser (Land Cruiser trim). I stopped by the Toyota dealership to measure the heights for garage fitment. The 1958 is right at 73" to the top of the roof (76" with the 3" shark fin antennae). The 1958 does not come standard with roof rails,
The Land Cruiser (Land Cruiser trim) does have the standard roof rails (plus the shark fin antennae). Even with different wheels/tires than the 1958, the Land Cruiser (Land Cruiser trim) is at 76" also (both the antennae and roof rails are 3" high).

Shep
Hi Shep,
No, I'm still on the waiting list to get an Overtrail. The specs I have seen show the Overtrail to be just a bit taller than the other models, 76.2 inches tall not including the roof rails. I didn't do any measuring when the sales rep brought the GX to my house as it fit the garage with no issue and at that point my question was answered.
