Default GX550 Ugly Running Boards

We just picked up our GX550 Luxury +. Most of the differences between trims have been discussed in other threads - stereo, dynamic roof, leather, etc. My wife wanted the glass roof, so we were steering that way already - but not locked in and would have taken whatever trim came in first. Knowing we wanted that other stuff anyway, what put me over the edge and made us go Lux+ were the running boards, and the Lux+ have retractables. Being totally honest, and not trying to offend, IMO the running boards on the GX550 are a HUGE miss by Lexus. The car is really good looking, and then they put on those things that look like something off a 2008 Sequoia (no disrespect to the 2008 Sequoia). I mentioned it to a dealer and they said it is not uncommon for boards to be removed from GX's, including their dealer car, so I guess it isn't just me. The aftermarket GX running board biz is going to be good I think.

agreed that the stock ones look like they are for a truck. That said I’m not sure I love the retractable ones either. I kind of like the tougher look from an always “on” running board. Btw a little off topic - do you know if the running board auto stops retracting if it hits an obstacle?

In my excitement, I might have gotten a bit ahead of myself. Prior to the arrival of my 2025 GX550 Premium Plus, I purchased the Overtrail illuminated running boards to replace the Premium Plus running boards. Before I take somewhere to install, does anyone know for sure if this will be a direct/easy replacement, or not? Lexus parts says its not a fitment match, but I have seen that before. Has anyone tried to put the illuminated Overtrail running boards on a Premium Plus? I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Default Illuminated running boards

Our 550 Overtrail was ordered with rock sliders (needed for our remote location). I have a set of illuminated running boards that I would like to sell if anyone is interested. They were replaced when we picked up the vehicle. Located in S. CO.

I think the default running boards look really great, makes it look big. Having them retractable is a nice touch, looks clean, but those boards are a little too short and slim, looks dainty.
