Lightbulb #License #plate / #bracket questions, comments, concerns

Did a quick search and I didn't see anything . . .

Has anyone found a front license plate mounting option that doesn't require drilling into the bumper? On my last car, I used this:

http://www.skenedesign.com/FPBracket/index.shtml

I'm curious if anyone has found some creative alternatives. I'm not a front plate fan, but I prefer not to have a "mechanical" if I can at all avoid it, TIA! KH

I run mine without a front plate. It's required in my state, but I've never had a problem. I hate the look of a front plate.

I'm with you on that! It's required in CA, so I decided a long time ago to not give the cops an additional reason to stop me . . . . at an inopportune time. KH

Around 80 years total on one to three cars at a time, since 1969, with no front license plate. So far so good.

Odds are that you haven't parked at the LAX Parking Garage.

Nope, I live in northern California. I usually keep the paper plate on the rear of the car until a couple years have passed. That minimizes the chance of being stopped for no front plate for a little while. The plates, with current tags, are kept in the trunk/rear of the vehicles but that would not prevent me from being ticketed if stopped for any kind of infraction.

They also do that in Kansas, Missouri was trying to do away with two plates, but it never passed. It was added to a bill to stop texting while driving.

Default License plate frame?

Just ordered a vanity plate for the GX. Now I need a frame. After less than four months plate is starting to scratch the back of the truck. I put those stick on felt pads on the back before I put the plate on (always use those) but it still is starting to mess up paint from vibration. Anyone have a frame you would recommend? I don't want one of those cheaply metal colored plastic Wal-Mart specials but my main concern is protecting the paint. Any other ideas on that are welcome too! Thanks in advance!

I have this frame in polished stainless steel on my GX 460. I also had one in powder coat black on my Porsche 996tt. I also have a set of the polished stainless steel frames on my LS 460.

These frames are excellent. You can buy them at any Lexus Dealer's parts department.

I have the frame in your pic and it rattles when I close the gate, four screws would be nice instead of the typical two but aesthetics is a problem. Double stick 3M is a solution.

I want to get a plain one since my vanity plate is LEXUS GX. I saw the ones at Sewell but thought with Lexus on the plate, I did not want Lexus on the frame as well. A friend suggested putting weatherstripping along the edges of the plate with the foam side towards the paint to alleviate the scratching. Thanks for the suggestions. I have about 3 weeks until the plate arrives. When I get it framed up and on I'll post a pic.
